what material is this made of?

This particular set is made of high quality nylon to prevent marring and scratching.

Are these flexible or hard? Description says flexible but also says nylon. Nylon is supposed to be hard.

Black pieces are quite hard and solid. Orange pieces are more flexible. Generally the orange pieces are are fairly flexible, however I have used other Nylon or ABS tools that are more soft or flexible.
