X-men: Days Of Future Past

Days of Future past has always been my absolute favorite story arc. It's a classic story, with a great sci-fi edge. The story itself is solid and really thought provoking for the time period it was birthed in as well as today. This was really the first seed of some very dark themes within the X-Men universe, so it's a milestone in that way. Now this collection is, in my opinion, the best collection that has been released so for of the DOFP story saga. X-Men collections tend to suffer from the fact that X-men story arcs have the habit of spilling over into all of the splintering titles and story arcs. Something that has become all the more prevalent today with roughly 6 mainstream X Men titles, and 4 spin offs. So major story arcs tend to suffer from having to spread so far and wide. This collection of DOFP does a great job of collecting major issues with tie ins, with ripple effects and various forms of related plots. One thing I was happy to see is they really collected a lot of material on the hounds, Ahab, Franklin Richards, New Mutants , Factor, caliber and so on. I am a huge DOFP snob, so I could point out some issues they should have collected, but overall this collection does a great job of providing the scope for the reader to frame the DOFP story within.

Not so good as dark phoenix saga but still enjoyable.

While Claremont's time on X-Men has many influential, sprawling sagas, Days of Future Past stands out as being succinct, only 2 issues, with little effect on subsequent issues, and yet has a timelessness to it. One of the quintessential pieces of time travel, post-apocalyptic fiction. The themes of fighting for a better future and defying destiny still resonate. This hardcover has both the main issues and tie-ins from the time.
