Marathon runner - 4 weeks to adapt
I like Prof Noakes, he is a very clever guy that is without argument. I switched to a LCHF lifestyle 6 weeks ago. The first three weeks were very hard on my running. Literally I was dead legged (and arms) from the first 10s until the last step. But slowly during the 4th week I saw a light.I did my run ths Sunday, only 8 miles...but, I felt energized the whole way and felt like I was running on sugar again. Only this time when I get to 16 miles+ I will not bonk, hit the wall or whatever you want to call it.I have lost 8lbs in 5 weeks without counting a single calorie. I go the whole day without craving a mid afternoon sugar rush. I feel liberated. I won't lie, it's not been plain sailing. The transformation is hard on your meals as well as your running but so far I am a 100% believer. As for the book. The science bit (Noakes) is compelling. He outlines why and presents the evidence in an easy to understand way. The outline of how his peers vilified him when he was brave enough to hold his hands up and say "I was wrong" is as infuriating as it is amazing to read. The food bit is great, It set's you on the path and is enough to get you through the first 3 weeks. For the first time in years I am actually looking forward to getting stuck into those 20 milers.

Lots of good recipes
The book is quite comprehensive and is perfect for those who are still thinking of starting low-carb lifestyle. The structure of the book is quite chaotic, I feel it would be better to have a comprehensive essay in the beginning of the book and recipes in the end, because it's not easy finding them in a kindle edition since they are in the middle. Otehr than that, I am very happy with all the info and the recipes provided.

A rehash of Atkins et al, with some updated data courtesy of Tim Noakes
I bought this book because Tim Noakes is the real deal when it comes to experimenting with running and endurance athletics research. My wife was (in years past) on the cusp of elite marathoner status. Many things she learned through trial and error, and through her exposure to other marathoners and coaches, ended up appearing later on in books by Tim Noakes. So color me a little bit surprised-but-not-so-surprised, when he lent his efforts to a book about low-carb eating. I've been a low-carber off and on since the 90's and was a proponent of Atkins back in the day. There isn't much in this book that is very new (in fact that is the point, because the authors go through the long history of carb-restriction diets) for those of us who have read Atkins and similar books.Where the book goes slightly off-track is in the pieces of the book that are poorly researched and full of some amounts of hyperbole. Those aren't the portions authored by Tim Noakes, but rather one of the other contributors who I fear is of the "Nutritionist" type. There is a sentence in the book that reads: "Soya is a genetically modified, toxic non-food with a host of problems and should not be consumed by man nor beast."This kind of nonscientific hysteria damages the credibility of what is otherwise a worthwhile message in the book.

easy to read with up-to-date information
The Real Meal Revolution is a very well thought out book, easy to read with up-to-date information. I do not need to be a scientist to understand it and yet it is based in sound scientific fact. If you are starting out on your low carb, healthy fat journey I highly recommend this book. The recipes are to-die-for. I have tried a different recipe every night and every recipe has been a delicious success. My husband and I are eating gourmet meals which are easy to prepare. I do not like cooking generally, but with these recipes it has brought the joy of cooking and eating back to me. This book sits out on my kitchen counter within easy reach as I refer to it several times a day, every day. And by the way, the fat is melting off my husband and he is never hungry any more. Thank you to Tim, Jonno and Sally-Ann for this amazing book.

Great insights, too evangelical
The book has great insights into the harms of high carbohydrate low fat (HCLF) diets and the benefits of the opposite - low carbohydrate high fat (LCHF) diets. I found the book a bit overzealous in its pontification especially when it came to labeling many foods toxic without going into the evidence to support these claims. It makes a compelling case for the LCHF and I was sold, in spite of my skepticism of some of the assertions made. The recipes are also very creative and helpful as well as the references for further reading.

Confusion about the nutrition difference between his interviews and this book.
I have heard Tim Noakes interviewed on several occasions where he has said carbohydrates are not even a necessary nutrient for the body. The fats and proteins are pivotal. Carbohydrates are not. But in this book he stresses the entire book how important it is to eat vegetables. I'm confused.

More about carbs - should we load or stay clear?
We had watched lectures by Tim Noakes on YouTube. The part of the book we like best happens in the last chapters with more scientific and narrative data. The recipes and photos seem complicated and appetizing. Good to have scientists from around the world to address the nutrition and health needs of all people. We are losing weight with the study results of Dr. Noakes as integrated with a personalized plan we can live with.

Excellent content, with some printer quality control problems
Great information in a useful format. This American understands that the book was published abroad and has recipes in the Metric system. I appreciate the conversion chart at the back. I would have been even more pleased if a US version had been available, but maybe that will come as more books are sold.I do have one complaint, however: many of the pages were not fully cut at the top. I used a letter opener to break them open, giving me a book that has a very ragged top edge. If you receive one like mine, I suggest you return it for a replacement. I waited too long.

Not sure about LCHF / keto or are you stuck in a plateau?
Excellent read, if you don't like the science stuff then forget the hit after the recipes. Great healthy lifestyle change, since using the LCHF diet I've lost nearly 10kg in 7 weeks, I have tons of energy, my skin has improved and my acid reflux has all but gone. My gut health seems to have radically improved as well. My gf has also lost 5 kg in 6 weeks and doesn't get bloating now. The last episode was due to high carbs (with and without gluten) and artificial sweeteners. After reading this book I'd recommended buy some ketostixs and use my fitness pal and strictly measure your food to see what you're eating. Don't be deterred by any lack of progress, be strict - good foods, good fats and measure everything if you plateau. I found that I only needed to eat when I was hungry so it was natural to do some intermittent fasting. You need to listen to your body not your cravings and this is usually why people fail. If you cannot lose weight your very IR and fasting will help even if you're on medications that increase insulin production. If you eat right you won't be hungry enough to pick and snack.Don't be deterred by research that shows LCHF diets aren't good, there have been studies done to prove This but once you read into them the carbs are 150g, that is not low, that's high but it's still not as high as what is recommended. E.g. Before the diet I weighed 108.7kg, to gain muscle several websites macro counters recommended I have anything between 250-350g carbs per day. To cut fat I was recommended 150-160g. All had similar fat and protein values, P 160g and F 30g. In 6 months of following a strict fat cutting plan I lost 3kg of muscle mass and gained 3kg of fat. Despite well timed meals, supplements and measured macros. It simply did the opposite of what it should have done. This converted me to keto. Best thing I've done, easy to follow and simple cooking. I love every meal and I'm never hungry, not like I was before.Give it a go, be strict for at least 6 weeks. If you measure and do it accurately you will see results. Trust me I was a non-believer.

This book is great if you follow it properly.
Three weeks ago I was diagnosed borderline diabetic. Using this book among other things I have lost 9 lbs and I am back to having a good blood sugar reading. The recipes in this book are really good. I don’t miss carbs and I feel so much better, even my BP has dropped to normal. I am 73 and feel 20 years younger.

Amazing life changing book.
I never write reviews but felt compelled to write one for this book that we now refer to as the bible of life and cooking. This book has honestly been the best cook book I have ever purchased and it is so informative (if you have time to read all about the science of why we should change the way we eat). I decided along with my husband a few months ago to change the way we eat. Nutri bullet shakes and counting calories were not shifting the weight and we didn't feel any better for it.I came across a website that went detail about low-carb, high-fat diets and why our diets should change. I hunted all over the internet to try to find decent low-carb, high-fat cookbooks and there are not many out there that are TRUE low-carb, high-fat cookbooks (some say they are but when you learn more about what to eat and what is bad for you, some of the books had recipes with ingredients that should be cut out of your diet, so not true books). My husband and I have tried quite a few recipes now out of this book and another book Tom Kerridge Dopamine Diet Cookbook (which is basically low-carb, high-fat diet too) and I must say that we feel happier, healthier and fuller. I work full time and rarely manage to exercise, I was part of a gym but cancelled after 6 months as I only managed to go a handful of times and I believed that been part of a gym I would force myself to go and I would lose weight, but talking to a sports science nutritionist I learnt something new that I will pass onto all of you that I thought was interesting. Apparently to lose weight we need to concentrated more on the diet than exercise, I will be honest I thought it was 50/50 diet and exercise but apparently diet is 70% and exercise is 30%, so you could eat rubbish and exercise every day for hours and you will not lose as much weight than if you concentrated just on the diet.I would never have believed this fact if I hadn't have tried it myself. So I cut out the carbs and thought I would try it for 2 weeks just to see if it works and to see how I feel. I lost 6lbs in two weeks (to be honest I don't want to lose too much weight, I wanted to get to where I was before I had my daughter (by losing a stone and a half) and just trying to tone up. Up to now I have lost just over a stone in weight, no exercise (after the initial 6lbs, I noticed that the weight came off 1lb - 1lb.5 a week). I went on holiday abroad for a week all inclusive so I had gained half a stone, but a week and a half back on the diet I was back where I were before I left. One important thing to realise that even though I say diet, this is not a diet or a fad. This is a life changer. We are so used to having chips with meals or pasta dishes or bread with every meal that we struggle to get our head around how are we supposed to cope by cutting these out of our lives, but believe me once you read this book and cook the recipes it was so easy to carry on. Seeing and feeling the effects that is good, whole natural foods can do for you and your body is quite amazing. It is initially a little expensive to swap and change all the foods you are used to but do it in bits and then do what I did and cleared out of the kitchen cupboards, all the foods we should not be having I threw out and then filled them with everything that is good, and if the temptation isn't there you are not likely to slip back into the bad habits of carbs. So I hope that my review was a good insight as to how I found the "diet" and the book and I hope that it helps you make the decision as to whether you want to change your life for the better, and if so this book is the best start that you can give yourself.

Lost weight within first three weeks
I am on my fourth week of this diet I haven't lost any more than the 7 pounds I initially lost but apparently that is a good thing and means the weight should drop of gradually. The book is filled with recipes, suggestions, nudges and science at the back as to how and why the diet works for most people. Please note that I say for most people. For myself the recipes could be a tad more precise and be better proof read but the content is there and if you just apply common sense after reading the book re the recipes then you'll be fine. The banting bread is delicious, we make variations and with butter and or cheese it's even better. Very easy to make too. The nutty crackers are a great carry around with you snack. This diet is the easiest thing in the world to do once you get past the initial thing of eating so much fatty meat. It was a bit of a novelty for me in the first week. By the second week I started looking forward to everything I ate and felt so surprised still that I never felt hungry in between meals. I shall stick with this diet for three months after which I shall get a check up with the doctors just to make sure everything is ticking along fine - it is a sensible thing to do because it is rather a lot of fatty meat allowed per day but then it might seem like that to me because I have been vegan and then vegetarian for years.

meal for diabetes and obesity
excellent review of low carb and high fat diet with historical details of contributions from Brilat Savrin ,Banting,Ebstein and Atkins and others. The main cause is insulin resistance in individuals prone to diabetes type 2 or obesity by prolonged surges of high insulin levels especially by the high intake carbohydrates. The carbohydrates increase the appetite where as fat and protein promote satiety. Therefore a low carbohydrate high fat diet reduces surges in blood sugars which leads to less surges in insulin resulting in diminished insulin resistance. This helps in the control of diabetes and obesity and other diseases ascomplications of obesity or diabetes ,hypertension gangrene blindness kidney failure etc. Food receives are also included
