Another sure hit, not to be missed, in the Bill Travis Series
George Wier's "Longnecks & Twisted Hearts" is the third in the series of The Bill Travis Mysteries and the follow-up to "The Last Call" and "Capitol Offense". In "Longnecks & Twisted Hearts" Bill finds himself going back home, to his childhood hometown, to bury his once best friend. Upon reaching town limits he is met by a police officer wanting to escort him out of town before seeing the widow or attending the funeral. He was given a nice, friendly warning, but of course by now Bill's interests are really peaked. If he thought things were a bit strange with the widow's phone call, the police warning him off and escorting him out of town before he has a chance to see anyone, well now Bill has to stay and figure things out for himself. And boy does he ever get himself entangled in a lot of strange stuff along the way.If you enjoyed "The Last Call" or "Capitol Offense" then you will really enjoy going on another thrill ride with Bill Travis. Bill Travis is just an ordinary guy who invests money for a living, yet he finds himself in some very strange situations. Pick up your copy today and take this journey home with Bill, you will not be disappointed and you will be thoroughly entertained.

fine for less than $3
I read the first three of the Bill Travis series- really a decent and only slightly wooden set of characters, fine for less than $3, but no more. Not at all in the Lee Childs/Michael Connelly, or even Max Allan Collins class. The relationship with Julie Simmons was nice at first, turns into total flatness by book 3 (taking completely away any possible side story line or suspense about the lead character's social and romantic life), and there is nothing with which to replace it except improbable plot elements. You can only milk Texas for so long.

Another winner!
I'm beginning to sound like a broken record. Each of the Bill Travis novels by George Weir just keeps getting better and better. This one is no different. Bill's first clue that he was headed into trouble should have been when he barely reached the city limits of his home town when he was pulled over by local law enforcement and told to turn around and leave town. He had just received word that his best friend had been killed. Also, Bill becomes a father in this Bill Travis esisode, to a little girl. One thing I will say is Julie, Bill's wife, is one understanding wife. No spoilers here, but I'll just say his poor wife was left alone when she needed him most, while Bill goes off to solve his mysteries. All in all a very enjoyable read, I'm beginning to feel like I know some of these people. I recommend this book highly and in my opinion it is another winner.

Connects & Twisted Hearts
The book was enjoyable until the supernatural part was reached. I did not enjoy the "gold finding" machine @ all. Just a little too far out for me. The first book in this series was great, the second book just slightly less, this Third book was down from 1 & 2. I am going to read the 4th book and hope it brings back more realistic happenings that are more believable. If not I will stop reading this series. When I read mystery and detective stories I do not care for supernatural parts that seem to me to be far fetched.Ward

An easy, enjoyable read
This is the third book I've read by Wier. I find the story lines compelling enough to keep my interest and eager to solve the mystery. I find it a little frustrating that the protagonist usually knows some critical information before the reader, so you can't solve along with him, but maybe that makes it easier to turn another page. I like Wier's descriptions of people and his wise views/quips about human nature. I did feel this story wrapped up all the loose ends too neatly and easily (something his books tend to do), but then, that's what makes it a lighter and easier book to get caught up in. I do like a happy ending. ;o)

Voyage to Death
Too many quirky characters, but it does hold your interest. Rather complicated, (this method does fill up space) but it more or less gets straightened out. Interesting comments affecting racism, although of course, that can't be corrected in Texas in this era. The concept of a hidden treasure is exciting, although we realize that no one will ever find it. The prologue story of the ancient shipand its crew is fascinating.
