Great Applicator for the Price
Purchased this when creating an O scale Halloween layout and wanted realistic grass instead of flocked sheets or moss. It works great and is easy to use. I’d never applied static grass before, but was able to figure it out pretty quickly and was happy with the results. I did learn the hard way that even though it’s just battery powered it can still pack a punch — just enough of a jolt to remind me to watch what I’m doing when cleaning it out. I can’t say how it would compare to the better known, more expensive brands, but this works as well as I need it to on a tight budget. I’ve been using it over a year now and it seems to still work just as well as the day I got it. One tip that I learned from another reviewer and that I also recommend is to attach the clamp to a straight pin and place the pin in the project area. It’s so much easier to use and clean up that way.

It’s ok.
Adequate to my needs. Rough around the edges but useful for small areas.

Poor Quality Control (?)
When i received the unit I realized immediately the guide to use it was not related to the product. It depicted some sort locking switch which i assumed was a shut off. The wand did come with a button. After installing the batteries, without pressing the button (which as much as i can assume is the "on" switch, since there are no relevant suggestions) i was shocked with quite a high voltage. This wasn't without me touching the metal grid of course, but let me ask: After installing batteries, how are you supposed to change your flocking in the cup without removing the batteries again. The easy answer would be: "a toggle switch which shuts off supply to the battery!". Of course this was the result of poor engineering. (or maybe poor quality control since there seems to be no reason for a button, if it were wired properly, to supply power to the unit without any depression.) Nonetheless, save yourself the time, and pain of getting shocked by 3 volts, and just buy the better one for 30 extra dollars.

Great for small projects
I have read about this battery applicator not getting good results or the battery doesn't last long. I bought this because it was about 75 percent cheaper than the plug in models. This product uses 2 AA batteries. So far I am happy with the results and have used it for a little over 2 hours with the same batteries. You just need to make sure the wire in the cup makes contact with the screen after replacing the cup lid after filling it. I also remove the batteries every time I am finished using it.

Gets the job done.. With some tweaking
This static grass applicator is good for the money. AFTER you make a few tweaks..First get the best of the best batteries you can find, and a lot of them.Second the positive charge lead in the cup is just long enough to touch the mesh.. You have to carefully un-twist and the unfold the bare wire (came folded in half and twisted onto itself)After you do that, carefully form two small leads from the wire, and push them through the mesh, and twist them together, then using tweezers, take that slack, and back through the mesh, and twist together again. That tweak, along with the best batteries achieves good results, also, the charge generated isn't enough "umpf" for grass over 4mm. And you need to hold it about 2 to 3 mm over where you want it for the best results.Gers the job done, allows you to get familiar with doing this work...

Fine for the price
Works well for the price, only 3 annoyances with the static grass. The lengths are not labeled on the bags, the grass is one color, and its clumps up. But I didnt by it for the grass.

It’s ok
It’s not the greatest but for a first time static grass applicator it’s OK. I’ve used it a fair amount in my models and it works. OK it’s not great. I would say spend the extra money and buy a higher quality one. The electricity is very strong and it is not very well put together simply hot glued.
