This product is effective for swimming but was delivered with a small hole in it and didn't look like a new product at all.

Honestly I thought these things would be more gimmick than useful on the reef but I was very wrong. The gloves are a rubber or silicon material with the same material welded over the fingers to create the webbing. The gloves are just thick enough that handling the occasional pokey piece of live rock didn't pierce the material, but I still retained a bit of sensation of what I was touching. I was pretty rough with these things during my spearing dives but they show no signs of wear and tear.In terms of their function as a swimming aid, I found them extremely helpful in maintaining my depth/position on the reef. When I used my hands to assist in my forward motion they added a considerable amount of pull to my stroke. I was also able to use them to wave sand away from clams and such I was investigating on the sea floor.Way more useful than I was anticipating and I would definitely recommend them.

**Update**I have a couple pairs of these and have been using them for a couple of years now. I'm a paralyzed scuba diver and these work perfectly for me. They are hard to get on unless you dip them in water or use the silicone lube. But they stay on and I have not had any rips or even stress/wear areas yet.I do wish you could get these with a little extra insulation. I wear the XL normally so even the XXL isn't big enough for me to get a layer under them without them being to tight and cutting off some circulation. I won't deduct a star for it ... so I suppose it's a feature request. Perhaps an XXXL would be large enough to get a thin glove underneath them. Or even a second line of the gloves made for, or with, a thin insulation layer.My hands are all I have in the water due to paralysis ... so I need them to work at maximum efficiency as close to 100% of the time as possible.
