For his album Film of Life, Tony Allen, the co-creator of Afrobeat, pulled out all the stops. At his side were French producers The Jazzbastards and fellow world-class musicians including Damon Albarn. This vinyl release from Jazz Village features remixes of two of the album's finest tracks. The German/Chilean duo Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer reinvented ''African Man,'' and with his knowledge of minimalist beats, Londoner Fort Romeau injected a sophisticated disco-esque rhythm into ''Go Back.'' The results are half-way between deep house revival and sci-fi soul.
