Q: How to plan the seed—walk around my land and throw it on the land by hand? Pour the seed into the machine letting the machine disperse the seed??

Overseeding use a walk behind spreader or by hand which is difficult to get uniform spread. On dirt scratch rake down an inch or more spread seed lightly rake it in and top with 1/4 inch of peat moss. If ground is compacted aerate then seed. Fertilize and weed killer should only be used on tall fescue between September and May. I am in New Jersey check your climate zone. Fall is best for planting otherwise early Spring after last frost. Love the seed germinates well and is consistent.

Probably not the best option for Dallas summers and don’t try to seed in the spring or summer. You might be ok to overseed this fall.

You should be able to check the web site to see if it is recommended for your zone. I'm happy with the seed in Virginia, zone 7.

Q: Will this work in Maine?

I don't see why not. My brother lives in NH and have used the Jonathan green products and says he loves them. I just know this grass seed is awesome. I tried the other brands and last spring put down this stuff, and within like 2 days it sprouted.
