Rainbow was formed by Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 after he left Deep Purple at the height of their fame. They were instantly successful and released a string of hit albums, with an ever changing line-up, between 1975 and 1983 when Blackmore broke up the group to join the reformed Deep Purple. This concert from their European tour in 1977 features the line-up responsible for the LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL album released later that year, including vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell. Blackmore had to be smuggled out of Austria after trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier and was very late arriving in Munich, all of which seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig.

a steal
At $10, this is almost a give-away. Seven minutes shy of a two-hour concert. Plus three videos, two interviews, a TV special, a slideshow with audio documentary and a short video gallery. In stereo, digital 5.1 and DTS surround sound (whatever that is). Must have for Dio, Blackmore or Cozy Powell fans.

A slight improvement on an already-must-have DVD
There's not a lot of information on Amazon or the web in general about this new edition of Rainbow's Live In Munich DVD, so I thought I'd provide some. The ONLY difference between the original 2006 release and this new 2013 version is the addition of the 11-minute original '76 special (for US TV?) "Rainbow Over Texas '76". This is an EXTREMELY welcome addition, as the special, as grainy as it may be, has bits of footage of Rainbow performing "Stargazer", and, this is the big one, "A Light in the Black"!!! Wow! Almost certainly the only surviving video footage of those songs being played live. The special also has some exclusive interviews with Ritchie and Ronnie. All in all, it's definitely worth seeking out the newer version over the original if you're buying it for the first time, and if you already have the original one, well, you have to ask yourself, how big of a Rainbow fan am I? For me, for 10 bucks it was a no-brainer, and I'm really glad I got the new one. The DVD otherwise retains all the other amazing stuff that was on the original edition, the mindblowing show obviously, but also the epic promo videos, including "Gates of Babylon" (with Ronnie's INCREDIBLE live vocal over the original studio-recorded instrumental backing), the very nice interviews with Bob Daisley and Colin Hart, and the 30-minute slide show with an excellent commentary summarizing the early history of the band. A true must-have for any Blackmore fan!

Have gotten 4 discs, all defective :(
Show was great. Was able to see Rainbow live twice but both times the venue was too small to set up the rainbow. The third time going to see Rainbow play they had the rainbow set up but didn't play,so I missed it again. So at least I got to see the rainbow in action. Blackmore was great considering all he went through to get to the show. Cozy Powell was awesome. Great show. Unfortunately this was the second DVD I got as a replacement of the first which jammed in the player. Then this one jammed after the first time playing it. I am now preparing to return the FORTH disc as everyone I have gotten has jammed in about the same place right before Cozy Powell's drum solo. Very very disappointed.

Great video of a historic concert
This was the night that Richie was released from jail in Vienna after kicking a security guard for roughing up a young female fan. He was driven directly to the show and ran on stage at midnight, and played this concert. A rare look at history. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is my copy stops playing part way through the second to last song, and after a few minutes, goes back to the beginning. But the extra videos are worth the price. Rare promo videos that I've never seen anywhere.

A Memory Worthy of Preserving
The DVD's sound and video were better than expected for something that happened 40 plus years ago. A great memory of Ritchie Blackmore, whom I saw a lot with his Rainbow bands and Deep Purple. One of the finest guitarists and songwriters of all time. Dio and Cozy Powell were great talents and may they R.I.P. I just wish Stargazer and Light in the Black from Rising were on the video. Still, this DVD is worthy of owning.

Great Band, Great Video
A Shame there isnt more, but led zep barely has video, its the eras fault, there are plenty of jazz vids from way earlier so it wasnt impossible to film concerts , maybe tough to get a good mix

spectacular
After having listened to the vinyl release countless times I finally decided it was time for our household to own the video as well. I must say this is one of the great documented moments of Rock N Roll. A true supergroup, DIO truly is a metal God. Enjoy
