INTRODUCTION The Beetle BLE (Former name as Bluno Beetle) is an Arduino compatible Bluetooth 4.0 enabled board. It is probably the smallest Arduino BLE board in the market. It uses standard Arduino IDE to upload codes via without any extra library and drivers. This Beetle BLE is another milestone in the Beetle line, which makes DIY users have more options in the project design. It is fully compatible with Bluno in instructions and procedures. Support Bluetooth HID and ibeacon modes. The Beetle BLE offers a super tiny and low cost Arduino with bluetooth 4.0. The Beetle BLE can be used for disposable projects, such as DIY projects, workshops, gift projects, E-Textiles wearable and educational. For students and makers who cannot afford too much on hardware purchasing, Beetle can be a great solution for them. Just like a native Arduino board, but with Bluetooth 4.0. An APP called Play Bluno is available on IOS and Android which gives a quick access to this little tiny board. It not only supports USB programming, but also wireless uploading method. With the V shaped gilded I/O interface, it is convenient to screw conductor wire on it, which could a good choice in the wearable market. I had such high hopes
Was hoping to buy a few hundred of these, but they won't even update their firmware to support proper Serial read notifications. They claim it fully supports BLE 4.0 but that's a lie. Been trying various methods for a month now trying to get a cordova app to read from the serial output. They also refuse to respond or attempt to help. Apparently they do not want a repeat customer.

Simplicity over configurability in a nice all-in-one board
I chose this little board for a bunch of projects and so far it's worked quite well. The documentation can be lacking and configurability is minimal, but that's also a selling point: the bluetooth serial communication just works; nothing to set up. Programming is simple. Nice to be able to use stock Arduino software without installing extra libraries. In another model I would lose the wire-wrap I/O pins and make it thinner. Generally I think this is a great deal for the price if you're going for an Arduino-compatible, compact, all-in-one BLE board. I used the Evothings platform to create a simple app to communicate between my smartphone and the board, then built the project from there.

Compatibility
Nice but...DFRobot answer to question concerning compatibility to Adafruit Bluefruit product:"This is a compatibility problem. DFRobot BLE series products are all compatible, while not with other brand. This is why even with a pc (Linux, Windows, Mac etc.) which has the BLE feature, you still need to use a USB BLE-Link to work with our BLE product."

The Beetle worked great until I followed the advice on the Wiki and tried to upgrade the firmware. The Beetle bricked during the download and I have been unable to find any sort of support or recommendations of what to do with it now.

Micro USB plugged in. Not visible by Arduino IDE.
EDIT: The problem was the microusb cable, so if you have the same problem try another one.I ordered 3 of these babies. When pluging in via microUSB, the arduino IDE does not recognize them ; it is not listed in the Tools->Port menu. Tried with the 3 of them. With an Android app like LightBlue, I see seem them. But if I can't upload my sketch, what's the matter ?Sigh...

Non-functioning
I bought two of these, and neither worked. After entering AT programming mode for the first time, I could no longer upload new Arduino sketches to them, nor could I do a hard firmware restore even when in the appropriate boot mode.Instructions / manuals / data sheets were also incredibly sparse and unhelpful.

Nice little Arduino ble
I love its size. It also connects to my iOS.

Does NOT work for OSX (w/caveats)
Works fine on IOS.Recognised and connected with BLE (not macs pre ~2012), but the data written to and read from the serial/uart isn't correct. With some work (check the DFRobot forums & AT commands!) you can make this function as a HID keyboard, which does work with OSX/corebluetooth.Seems to be very low power draw though, and I have had several of these running for over 24 hours on ~5000mah battery pack.
