A distressed upper and brass eyelets lend rustic charm to FRYE's Rogan Tall boot. The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

My new favorite Frye boots.
I'm a big fan of Frye boots (this is my 7th pair), but I have to say these are the most comfortable boots (of any style and any brand) out of the box I have ever purchased. The sizing on these is surprisingly spot-on. I wear a 10.5US and my other Frye boots are usually a little snug out of the box but they stretch and mold and fit great after a few months. These are slightly roomier (more like a 10.75) and fit great out of the box without being loose, just plain comfortable. The bottom of the shoe (where your foot is) is stiff but still flexible, the upper part (ankle) is thinner and very flexible. Another post said they offered good ankle support, I disagree. It's leather, it's around your ankle, but you're not getting any support there. Like their other full-leather boots these don't breathe. If your feet sweat a lot you could end up with very stinky boots. You probably won't wear these in 90+ heat either. I don't expect the leather to keep my feet warm in single digit temperatures either, but I'll wear thick socks for those days. The color out of the box resembles the pic, the upper part is dyed lighter and looks more worn. Actually my boot looks "banded". The bottom is dyed very dark (which has been "distressed" with some scrapes and scuffs). The middle is slightly lighter, and the top the lightest. There are distinct bands between the areas. I'm sure these will fade with time and look more natural. The sole seems to be the same rugged construction as some of my other Frye boots. I expect it to handle a few years of use before needing the heel replaced. The laces are Frye's typical waxed/treated cotton. I did have a pair of these wear out on an older boot and finding an exact replacement is sadly impossible.Like most new boots I expect these to "bloom" after the first few weeks as the leather releases excess oil. It is easily wiped away with a clean cloth. Then I'll treat them with some conditioner and enjoy them for many years to come. The boots look equally great with jeans or khaki's, and can easily go from a casual to business casual.I've already recommended them to several friends and have received a few positive compliments. I'm actually considering getting a pair in black as well.

The style wasn't quite what I was looking for so I ultimately went with a distressed pair of the combat style Wayde boots from F
I previously purchased a pair of the Frye Rogan Hiker (discontinued style, sadly) in a size 8 and they fit perfectly. I am typically an 8.5 but with Frye and Timberland boots I sometimes run an 8. So, I ordered these in an 8 expecting them to be sized the same as a previous version, but they were too small. I was going to return them for a larger size but opted to just return them altogether. The style wasn't quite what I was looking for so I ultimately went with a distressed pair of the combat style Wayde boots from Frye that I like much better.Overall, Frye makes a stylish product but the quality does seem to be lacking in recent years. Thankfully, Amazon has a great return policy.

... these shoes after reading other customer reviews saying how comfortable they are
I bought these shoes after reading other customer reviews saying how comfortable they are, they were right. Fye boots run big, everything else i wear 11 or 11 1/2 but I bought size 10 1/2, these are just a tad smaller than my frye engineer boots but fit great. They are a little tight getting on and off but once you get them on they are like leather gloves on your feet, and with no break it time. I wear them standing all day and they were crazy comfortable right out of the box. They look good too! They are very distressed , looks like they've been worn for years, some people may or may not like that, but I personally do. Also they were a steal on amazon for $150 when they retail for $300.

One Star
Both heels separating and sole peeling off from toe after 1 month + 1 week of wear.UPDATE: I got in touch with Frye via Twitter and email. They called me back within one day and told me that normally they would repair the boots but since they are a discontinued style, they sent me a pair of Sutton Tall Lace boots, which have what appears to be a MUCH thicker/better sole and MUCH thicker uppers. So anyway, good on Frye.

Almost Great but struggling
These look great and pretty close to being great. But they fall short of comfortable. I bought a shoe stretcher, staurated my boots with leather conditioner, been wearing them often this past week to break in. Still struggling to love these. It's a shame cause they look so darn cool. I'll give it another week or 2 before I sell them on EBay if not feeling right.

Great Quality Boot
Well lets start with the sizing... They do run a little big. I'm a size 10 usually. i had to return these and I got a size 9 1/2. I probably could have even got a size 9 , but these were fine. There was another problem, when they sent me the size 9 1/2, they were sent me the plain black, when I ordered the antiqued black. I just didnt want to wait another few weeks for them so I kept them. They were really stiff. I felt that it took a little longer to break in then a regular pair of boots. But now they are nicely broken in, and I love them. Very high quality, thick leather, nice stitching. The insides are a nice smooth leather. Very comfortable. The only thing I was dissapointed with was the tread. I wore the boots about 7 or 8 times and the treads on the bottom are almost bald ! I don't understand it. You spend over $300 and you don't think the treads will wear out after wearing them a handful of times. I have a pair of boots that I wore almost every day for 2 years and they have a bigger tread ! Oh well. I do like them though...
