A mind bender.
Robert Monroe's story is such a remarkable one that for me it took a few years of pondering and re-reading various accounts of his "journeys" to come to grips with it as a legitimate reality. Since the early 1960's, Monroe carefully logged many hundreds or thousands of out of body experiences and over the years mastered exit techniques and went on to teach them to many students at his institute in Virginia.Far Journeys is a wild ride and was at times difficult to follow due to the many terms RM coined to describe the completely unknown entities and experiences that became routine for him. Once you get accustomed to the vocabulary, the narrative becomes more intelligible. The book is really something of a travelogue to non-physical reality. He is not stopping along the way to explain things to us readers, but leaving the experiences to speak for themselves. In the end, one is left to grapple with the implications of all he is laying out. Is he just completely insane? I don't think that is the case. Monroe was, in my view, a true modern mystic, born into a highly academic and rational Western world. He brought all of his pragmatism and mechanistic views on the world to bear as he wrestled with his remarkable gifts. He is really the heir to Edgar Casey, and in turn any number of mystics from antiquity.

offers insights on Why are we here? Who are we?
A hard book to put down once you start reading it. The experiences of Robert Monroe in an out-of-body state made for a fascinating story. I found myself hungry for more information that The Monroe Institute has discovered. I recently I went on their website and discovered a vast offering of free audio downloads. See their Resources section, Free Audio Downloads, and the Explorers section. There are ~32 Explorer downloads - selected from their research archives of sessions with people in their OBE state reporting verbally what they are seeing/doing/experiencing. There is also interaction with entities or groups. But, my favorite is #23, which I've listened to 3 times now and learn more each time. In #23 Robert Monroe is with a group of people, looking back at his experiences and sharing what he currently does OBE. He also summarizes some of the findings of TMI after years of working with many people. In this recording Mr. Monroe shares that they have found that approximately 8% of people they have worked with (or does this extend to the human population?) are incarnated for the very first time as a human, some for the very first time as a physical being. His reflection (theory?) of life as waveforms is fascinating. There are some real gems in these recordings, and if you've read the books, you'll recognize some of the recordings as stories/incidents in the books.

Great book for those interested in this subject area
Easy to read and full of Monroe’s own experiences. For anyone interested in Monroe’s work this is an essential read. Practical tips to follow to illicit similar experience. However, as with all life skills, consistent practice is needed so don’t expect to read the book and be traveling the next day….

Tread carefully
I could not get through it. Got about halfway. I have not experienced any out of body connections with guides, so I really don't know what the heck this book is talking about. Like reading a dictionary with no definitions. I loved his first book, I loved his last book, and I love the Monroe Institute. I am just not ready for this one. Will revisit later.

A very enjoyable read for this interested in this genre and well presented
Very good read for this interested in this genre and would like further information on this topic. The author expresses themselves very well throughout this literature. I would recommend this book to those who like to have a better understanding or those who already have an appreciation of this and would like to immerse themselves more on this topic. Highly recommend this book / author and seller. Shipping and handling arrived new and without defects and well presented packaging.

A Must-Read. If you're ready for it.
This is the most important book every person should read (if they're ready for it).I will go so far as to say it's more vital to read this than any religious or philosophical text. Reading this can also help your understanding of those texts, like the Bible.Far Journeys is very comprehensive. I learned a lot, and it even helped thread my personal experiences so I can have a fuller picture of the human experience and the answers to why we are here. (YOUR ANSWERS TO EXISTENTIAL QUESTIONS—IN THIS BOOK! and in your mind.)However, as this is Monroe's second book, I'd advise reading his first book (which I did not read) first, or to read William Buhlman's "Adventures Beyond the Body" which is probably shorter. Either of these will give you a primer on astral projection aka out-of-body-experiences (OBE) so that you can have a smooth journey reading Far Journeys.

50's Science fiction anyone?
Really, just badly written fantasy stories that could have had their moment on the original Star Trek series. I'm sure Mr Monroe did have OBEs, but he apparently also enjoyed writing fiction. If the astral plane is filled with these 2D characters then I think I'll pass trying to get out of my body. Seriously, this is just a trip through his imagination. If any of this did happen then he embellished it beyond recognition for the sake of producing this book. If anyone with any credentials were still working for his institute after this first came out then I'd be very surprised. I honestly think he must have just really, really wanted to write fiction.

Far Journeys
Excellent book, well written, gives many of what you may encounter in your astral journeys which was very interesting. This is my second purchase, as my friend wanted a copy. It gives you great ways in which to astral project and travel, great read facinating stories of many experiencers. Its the kind of book you pick up but dont want to put down once you get into it.

Big Bang

This is book 3 in the series of amazing experiences in the out of body state of awareness
This is book 3 in the series of amazing experiences in the out of body state of awareness, by Robert Monroe and his team of other dimensional reality explorers... I originally purchased the series 20 years ago. I like to reread the books every few years to see if I am able to understand the material in them on a deeper level as I evolve. Somehow, during a move, I lost this middle book and was replacing it with this purchase. This series is about real life, ongoing and documented experiences, by intelligent, educated people, through both spontaneous experience and planned experiment.
