mens 501 Original Jeans

Original review below but read on in CAPS for subsequent experience:-WORE JEANS FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN WASHED THEM SEPARATELY ON A GENTLE, 30 DEGREEE WASH. ON CHECKING THEM AFTER WASHING THE SEAM ON THE RIGHT LEG HAD SPLIT AND THERE WAS A ONE INCH GAP. I RETURNED THIS PAIR AND AMAZON REPLACED THEM WITHIN 36HRS...WELL DONE.THE REPLACEMENT PAIR WERE LABELLED THE SAME 32W/32L BUT WHEN I PUT THEM ON THE FIT WAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND THEY WERE AN INCH LONGER THAN PREVIOUS PAIR. (MEASURED AGAINST AN OLD PAIR OF 501s). SO I RETURNED THIS PAIR BUT HAD TO OPT FOR A REFUND AS REPLACEMENT WASN'T AN OPTION, PRESUMABLY AS THE FIRST PAIR WHICH I RETURNED HADN'T BEEN FULLY PROCESSED?I THEN ORDERED A NEW PAIR (AGAIN 32W/32L) WHICH ARRIVED TODAY AND FIT PERFECTLY, JUST LIKE THE FIRST PAIR. UNFORTUNATELY, THE PRICE OF THESE HAD GONE UP SO I ENDED UP PAYING AN EXTRA £6 DUE TO LEVI'S QUALITY ISSUES ... SUCH A SHAME.I'VE BEEN WEARING LEVI'S FOR OVER 40 YEARS. MY FIRST PAIR WERE SHRINK TO FIT .. STILL REMEMBER SITTING IN THE BATH WITH THEM ON AND THE WATER TURNING BLUE WITH THE DYE.Original review below ...Good fit and quality at a genuinely discounted price.I was concerned about the red tab having a capital E not a lower case e, having read that the capital E was not used after 1971 and anything new having this would be a fake! However, on checking with Levi's directly I found that both the "E" and "e" are currently used on the tabs along with a third version, on a small proportion of jeans, which just have the copyright symbol. (to signify that Levi's own the copyright to the tab not just the writing on it ..) There is quite a market for vintage jeans with the "E" with some fetching very high prices ... this could be where the idea that anything with this which is new is a fake. This in NOT true. I've been wearing Levi's 501's since the early 1970's and not only are these jeans genuine Levi's 501's but they are genuine Levi's 501 Premium. Levi's Premium have big E on red tab, thick leather Levi's patch and better stitching than regular 501. Genuine article at a fantastic price. Don't forget when ordering, Levi's waist sizes are 2" bigger than stated: ie. I'm a 34" waist so my Levi's waist size is 32". Leg measurement is true to size.

I have been wearing Levi's for about 15 years. I've seen a lot of people saying that these are not genuine or are of inferior quality, however, these are exactly the same as those purchased in selfridges or debenhams. They're admittedly not as good as they used to be (I've got 2 pairs that lasted about 5-6 years of continual use, they had faded by the end and had torn on the stitching on the crotch and back pockets, but we're still wearable). I have a pair of these I got about 18months ago, as a replacement of the marlin coloured ones which I bought from selfridges and had to take back after 6 months as the crotch was knackered (they replaced them free of charge) and they've had very heavy use. They're still wearable but have faded much quicker and torn on the crotch and one belt buckle on the back. I've had Armani', Lacoste and diesel and these still are much better. It'd be nice if they were as good as they used to be but they're still a decent pair of jean.

Was recently made aware how to spot a fake pair of Levi's (if there is a big E on the red tab that spells LEVI'S). I checked this pair that I bought a year ago on Amazon (Dispatched & Sold by Amazon)...and there was the big E. Will be on look out in future, looking at a number of other reviews Amazon clearly has a big problem with fake supplies. Wont be buying any more clothes here in future.
