Work very well, allow different shoe use; positioning important; keep a spare pair
Okay, I've used these for nearly 2 years now. Tried other metatarsal pads, keep coming back to these.Pros:1) Not expensive2) re-usable many days or weeks or months, with care, i.e. gentle soap/water washing post-use ( & see also cons)3) They stick on your feet, not the shoe, so you can use different shoes & even go w/o socks until they get "non-sticky" (see cons). Note: I've always thought you might be able to stick them to the shoe instead, but never tried it.4) Do a very good job to alleviate metatarsal problem, if positioned correctly (see cons)Cons:1) They require careful positioning, or they do cause pain &/or don't alleviate metatarsal pain. I looked up on Internet commentaries about positioning of metatarsal pads & that worked for me. Big difference from even 1/4 inch. You have to figure out for yourself w/your own feet size, etc. how to position them correctly.2) For best consistency & lasting longer, you need to wear socks. You CAN wear them w/o socks, but they don't last long if you do... the stickiness 'wears out'. However, if you want to wear sandals & cannot tolerate walking w/o padding...they do work great! You just need to replace after only a few uses.3) IMO they need to be washed w/soap water (only a few seconds, then rinse) after each use, or they don't work nearly as well the next time and they 'wear out' more quickly.4) They are perfect when brand new, then they decline over time as the stickiness wears off and/or you get dirt/pet hair, etc stuck to the pad, even w/daily washing. I'd say they can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months, depending on how careful you are and the conditions you use them in (i.e. do you walk where dirt gets to them?)

Works for me
My doctor recommended these. Be careful to order the correct thickness. My original order came with 1/8” pads. I agree with reviews about not lasting very long. But I don’t care because the ease my pain. Adhere strong. Like you get them wet to make them sticky again. If your feet sweat, the adhesion won’t work.

Great product - poor marketing!
I deducted one star as although the product is very good, the manufacturer's lack of directions for its customers is ridiculous. The box shows the pad placed on the ball of the foot. This is not how my podiatrist recommended this type of product be used, and may actually make the problem worse! Does Jill's not know how their own product should be used? Anyway, shame on them for not providing better customer service and recognizing that placement is probably the most important aspect of their product. Anyway, as a regular hiker, I started having severe Metatarsalgia issues with my left foot. I visited the podiatrist and metatarsal pads were recommended. I tried several types from Amazon and found Jill's to help the most and be most convenient (at least with my issue), with two important caveats (which took me a visit to the podiatrist, and additional trial & error experiments to get right): 1) PLACEMENT: to be most effective, the pad has to be placed just BELOW the ball of the foot (kind of filling in the arch area). You can go on YouTube and find videos by podiatrists that show the proper placement. The ball of the foot will still be exposed, but the pad below relieves the pressure as you walk; 2) THICKNESS: I found the 1/8" are great for sandals, flip flops or light activity, but the 1/4" is the ticket for hiking or extended activity (I have a high arch, so may not work for lower arches). Yes, at first, they will feel too thick, but trust me, once you start hiking or walking, you will barely know they are there, if placed properly. These pads stick to the bottom of your foot and can then be rinsed off and air dried until the next time. For the first time in months, I am able to do long hikes without pain! So, these pads DO work, if you experiment and figure out which thickness and positioning works best for you. BTW, save the little plastic covers, as it will make storing easier after you've cleaned them (I made the mistake of throwing them away the first time, and you'll need them, or the pads will stick to everything!) I will note, the stickiness is not messy or an issue, as it doesn't come off on your foot or hands, but they do stick well time after time! These pads have been a life saver in enabling me to resume my active lifestyle, and I highly recommend them, if you want to relieve metatarsalgia foot pain!

Works!
Finally a cushion that is thick enough to actually provide adequate cushion. I wear size 8 shoe and these pads are a good size/fit. They stay in place. Just wash and reapply. Adhesive gets reactivated.

Correct Placement
I have metatarsalalgia from dancing too many years in high heels. Now, I factor in the price of a Jill Gel every time I purchase a pair of shoes. Even my water shoes have them. If you have metatarsalgia, it is very important to place the gel right after the pad of the ball of your foot. So, when you take a step, the ball of your foot does not have as much pressure. I like the 1/4” gel, and I also buy my shoes a little bigger to make sure my toes are not squeezed. Way different from the days of dancing in pointy, toe high heels.

Product has changed
These pads have been helpful with a foot issue but recently they are so sticky, some are unusable! I hope the products quality goes back to the original.
