Moore & Wright 75mm/3 inch Engineers Square - and

I found this square to be very accurate though it has developed a bit of rust within a few months of buying and I do store it in the box that it came in

So heavy for such a small item. This square came in nice packaging, obviously chosen to help minimize impact on the square. The thing weighs more than you'd expect and yes is not a burden. I tested it right away... dead on. Want an easy test that doesn't require a block? Put a piece of paper on a table at the edge, put the square on the edge and draw a line up the inside. Now flip the square, line it up with the mark and draw another line on the inside, either on top or side by side. Mine is perfect, both block and simple test. I'll be buying more sizes for sure. This is a great buy.

I knew the instant I saw how carefully these were wrapped (doubled wrapped) in paper, sheathed in plastic and boxed up in a heavy paper stock box, I had a winner. It's obvious Moore and Wright created these pride and care. I've purchased the 3 inch, 4 inch and 6 inch. The 3 and 4 arrived today. Based on the and 3 and 4, I have zero doubt the 6" is going to be just as good. The fit and finish are excellent. The accuracy is excellent. Just visual testing on a certified surface plate. The backs line up perfectly. Each outside dimension nests perfectly into each inside dimension. The stocks are precisely the same size. The blades are perfectly perpendicular in the stocks. Since I am using these for woodworking machinery set up, I have no need to do any further testing. It doesn't get better than this for 2-3x the money. I am stoked that you can get this fantastic quality for such a crazy good price. Seriously, these are a ridiculous steal. I would pay double for these and be just as happy. If you are looking for PRECISION engineer squares, YOUR MONEY DESERVES THESE AND THESE DESERVE YOUR MONEY!

I purchased a cheaper square before this one and was really disappointed, but what can you expect from a square that's $10. Still, I thought it might be good enough. The edges were rough, some burr on the edges etc. Anyway, this review is not about the bad one but about this one. I decided to pay a little extra in the hopes of better quality, considering my occasional usage and the fact I'm not building a space ship, I didn't want to spend the money on high accuracy name brands that are closer to $100. I took a chance on this one because the price was still reasonable and by now, my expectations were lower, oh my what a surprise. It's a beautiful tool, all surfaces are clean and ground, perfectly square based on the tools available to me to check. I like it so much, that now I'm ordering other sizes. I guess I had to try the bad to appreciate the good.
