Luxurious and quiet.
After struggling with less expensive T-rget sourced hair dryers - one broke after 3 months and the other was so loud I needed foam ear plugs when using it - I splurged on this dryer. My professional colorist uses an Italian made dryer and it always impressed me. I debated which brand to get but this one was made for thinner hair and had all the ionic features and the shiny black and gold trim is super luxurious and sexy. Recommended if you want to treat yourself. It also dries hair exceptionally well and is quiet. Not silent like a Dyson but way quieter than most hair dryers priced under 100. It's not lightweight but it is not heavy either and feels nice in the hand. It's solid and well made.

Three words: Oh. Em. Gee.
Let me start by saying that I have purchased a few high-priced hair dryers in the past and none of them has ever lived up to the hype. As far as high-end dryers go, this Elchim is really not that expensive (I've seen them as high as $300+). This model retails for $200 at a national brick & mortar beauty chain, but I paid $125 here on Amazon. I read all the great reviews and was guardedly optimistic. I can say that this dryer is seriously amazing. I love everything about it.#1 - The manufacturer claims that the weight of the dryer is distributed in such a way as to ease wear on the forearm & wrist (sounds like a load of marketing BS, right?). At first it seemed a little heavy when I took it from the box but I have to say neither my arms, wrists nor shoulders felt tired at all while I was using it.#2 - It is really pretty quiet and makes more of a hum than a whine.#3 - This dryer is very well designed. The position of the heat & airflow switches on the handle is perfect. You can make adjustments on the fly without having to change your grip. Also the cool-shot button is in the exact spot where your thumb naturally rests while holding the dryer so you don't have to grope around to find it. Buttons & switches are easy to use but provide enough resistence so you don't accidentally change settings.#4 - Even on the hottest setting it does not get scorchingly hot.#5 - The airflow is very powerful and really does cut down on dry time considerably. I've heard that powerful airflow is key for a good blow-out. I was skeptical about this because every hair dryer I've ever had blows my hair around like crazy and basically turns it into a knotted mess, the hair shaft never seemed to lay smoothly and my ends always looked fried (I had always attributed the fried ends to the fact that I bleach my hair). The airflow of this dryer pretty much goes only where I want it, does not blow my hair all over the place, and when I'm finished my hair looks super smooth & shiney all the way down to the ends.In a nutshell I could not be more happy with this dryer and can't even think of anything negative to say about it. If I'd known it would work this well I honestly would have gladly paid double for it. But don't tell Elchim that.

Worth the money - from a frugal shopper!
Ok, I'm sold. I have to say I was skeptical. I've only owned the "basic" $30 hairdryer you get from Walmart my whole life, and I just hit 50 years old. I've always thought it was stupid for people to spend more than that on a hairdryer just to get something else that blows air just like the cheaper ones did. But, I started reading reviews and got curious - it appeared that different hair dryers might actually do different things. I'd returned an item or two on Amazon and found that they make it pretty easy, so I decided to take the chance on this and just return it if I didn't feel it was worth the extra money. Well, I'm keeping it. In fact, I bought a second one for a friend for Christmas. I have fine hair, but a decent amount of it, so it typically dries fairly quickly anyway, but this did cut down the drying time. But for me, the selling point was more how my hair felt and looked afterwards. I regularly color my hair and have been doing so for years, so sometimes it could look a little dried out and "strawlike," especially in the back. After using this dryer, and even more so after using it for a week or so, my hair doesn't look dry or strawlike anymore, but silkier and much healthier. Then, my friend tried it. She has very long, very thick hair. She's the active, sporty mom-type that hates spending the time doing her hair and often will just pull it up because of that. She timed herself using her own regular dryer and it took her 10 min to dry her hair. The next day, she used mine - the Elchim - and timed it again and it literally cut it down by at least 50% to 4-5 min. And not only that, her hair looked like a Pantene commercial! She usually has some waves in it that she will flat-iron out, but really didn't need to after using this dryer, so her total time to do her hair was only about 5-6 minutes, which she was thrilled about - hence the Christmas present idea. Also, I have had some issues with my hair kinking about 2-3 inches out from the roots on the top of my head that I always had to flat iron out, even though I would use my hair dryer, big round brush, cold shot, etc., with my old dryer. My stylist said it was probably because as I was getting more grey strands, which are more resistant. I was amazed to see that, with this dryer, the kinks are not there - maybe just slightly here or there, but pretty much gone! I also haven't had to use my flat iron much, some days not at all, with this dryer, which helps keep my hair healthier too. And I can completely dry and style my hair in less time too. I don't know exactly how the science works, but I'm glad it does! I won't go back to the old cheap dryers anymore.

Didn't last 2 yrs!
I purchased at the end of November 2023 and my $220 blow dryer is already no good. It's smokes when I turn it on and makes a funny sound. How disappointing!!My last elchim lasted almost 10 yrs. So I figured this one would last at least 7 or 8 yrs but nope...not even 2 yrs.Don't waste your money it's not worth it!
