won't disappoint
i used it with my 114mm reflector and it works great. so far, i was able to capture the moon in detail, the shadow of io and ganymede on jupiter, the great red spot, saturn's cassini division, orion nebula trapezium, and more. also works great with my refractor for wide field viewing. some images might need post processing but the point is, this camera can actually capture all what i saw. tweaking the exposure level helped a lot. highly recommended for a starter. although long exposure captures are not possible, necessary for objects like nebulas and galaxies.

works fine but software needs improvement
works fine but software needs improvement. software is cloudy and their instructions leave a lot to be desired. get by the software-the camera works fine, just like any other video camera. if you have video experience-everything is just great.

Better than expected image quality
The media could not be loaded. I'm using this Orion telcam mainly for terrestrial use, and it exceeds my expectations....probably because I was prepared to see relatively dark or grainy images, especially considering the high magnification of the camera -- I'd guess equivalent to a 5 to 7mm eyepiece. The best way I can describe it is with actual footage -- see attached video of a scrub jay on a power line (over 60 feet line of sight), recorded using the Orion cam on a Meade Infinity 70mm scope, and ContaCam webcam software (free, google it) which includes nice motion detection and snapshot features (Yawcam is another good program). The only feature I really wish the camera had is zoom (in the reducing direction), as the magnification is quite high especially for terrestrial viewing -- Would be great if it could zoom equiv. to a 5 to 25mm eyepiece.I bought the camera used, but as a regular paying customer. I was not paid or encouraged to write this review.

Complete Garbage
Ordered this product along with an Orion telescope. Installed the software and could not believe how horrible the software was. Tried out the camera and could not believe how horrible it was. It comes with a disk that has a link to a website so you can download a software that will make your horrible images look like something you can see. I called Orion customer service to see if I could get some tips but could not get a rep in the 22 times I called over a weeks long period. I sent it back and bought an HP web cam. Got on you tube and found a video on how to customize a webcam into an eyepiece cam and I am now taking 10 megapixel photos and recording video in 1080p of the things I find. Do not waste your time with this horrible product. This is one of the worst items I have purchased in my entire life. The customer service is also just as bad as the product. DO NOT BUY!

Great camera!!
Fits perfectly in my telescope eyepiece lens holder, works well with my older laptop,as I am sure it would work with any computer. The price is very resonable,Surely a great investment for your telescope and an added demension in the correlation of telescope and computer The possibilites is surely going to take viewing the heavens to another level that I am just beginning to discover!

But bad handling is not
Well.. it is something about price and quality. This was a $49.00 purchase, I was aware of all limitations and reviews for this product. But bad handling is not, buy any chance, something that can be related to cheap price.I've got scratches and some marks due to bad handling when they sent it to me. As it did not incur in any malfunction of the eyepiece, I decided to keep it. But you know: things coming from China sometimes are like this.I just realized it is a simple 800 x 600 px CMOS webcam. Using it is equivalent to put a 5mm eyepiece in your telescope.I found it very useful that my Linux Ubuntu system recognized it automatically with no need of additional drivers. But I found that this cam has a lot of noise in the images during night sky observations and it maybe is OK for Moon, planets but not deep sky objects.I haven't tried the Windows software which comes with the product. The USB cable should be larger.Fortunately I've both an Orion 0.5 Focal Reducer and it worked fine with this eyepiece regardless of been told by customer's service that Orion does not have an focal reducer suitable for this Eyepiece... This way I could improve my field of view a litlle...

Great and easy to use.
This camera was easy to set up and use. I had a computer fail during the Eclipse and the Variscop camera disk did not have the drivers for the camera. This camera was for pointing and back up. It worked great and all needed components were on the disk. Thanks
