It's a magnet. It sticks to metal stuff.
It sticks to certain metals. Aluminum, steel. Does not stick to gold or silver. Haven't tested on copper.

Easy way for initial testing of precious metals. Good value.
I wasn't clear as to how the magnet works for testing silver. When I contacted the seller, they responded quickly and thoroughly. I now understand if the magnet doesn't cling to a silver piece it means the metal is silver as opposed to the other way around. Knowing this makes this item easy to use. It is also attractive and sells for a good price. I recommend it.
