Greatly Underrated
Greatly underrated Lowe was one of the most innovative guitarists of the fifties and sixties. Defying the demand for commercial jazz, he took the popular TV themes to another level. A big surprise here are the experimental pieces by Alec Wilder. Modern by even 21st century standards. And Porgy And Bess rivals the Miles Davis album from the same period. You can't go wrong with this.

Sometimes great ,sometimes too mellow for my taste ,but Mr. Lowe's talent always shines through.

Mundell Lowe: The Coolest Guitar of the 50's and 60's !
Mundell Lowe has the distinction of being the coolest guitarist of the 50's and 60's. He was THE beatnik guitar player. His albums, many on this collection have a fantastic smokey NY City vibe and a swinging small big band suspense sound that makes you snap snap snap those fingers daddy. His TV themes and Porgy and Bess albums are some of the funnest jazz you'll ever hear. Lowe played with Sinatra among many other very prominant bands but when he struck out as a solo artist, he dedicated himself to jazz for the people. VERY listenable fun swinging sides to make you feel like you know it all and are on top of the world. DIG Mundell Lowe with this amazing 7 CD set. You'll never hear jazz guitar the same again. Far Out and Swingin'!! NB

It's tedious rubbish. The Guitar Moods solo album sounds like me practicingon a cold day. Most 1950s jazz guitar music still sounds fresh but these albums are very dated. When i read the obituary of Mundell Lowe, i thought, here's a jazz guitarist i've never heard of, so the small sum for 7 albums might be worth a punt. But it's not.
