Another awesome expansion
A Touch of Evil is one of my top 3 cooperative games. I own every expansion for this game. This hero pack adds 4 more heroes and 1 more exciting villain to defeat. Same quality components as usual. Definitely worth the purchase.

All in all, a good purchase.
I was "On the Hunt" for a new villain and got what I expected. However, the new heroes were much more interesting than I expected and use them frequently as well.

Grim Reaper, quirky Heroes and a stiff price tag
A Touch of Evil is a great fun boardgame, but it can become repetitive, so the two Hero Packs introduce variety, with four new Heroes, a new Villain and some extra Location and Event cards. The new Villain is the Reaper - your common-or-garden cowled Death. He's deadly in a fight (2 wounds per hit - ouch!) and gains more Wound Levels for every Elder he kills off. His Mark of Death targets each Elder in turn and is a cute variation on the normal mechanism by which the Town Elders die. Also, the Reaper doesn't turn them into Evil Elders; they just flee town, which is a benefit to the poor Heroes. The Reaper also gets to "Wither" locations on the board and Heroes may take wounds from entering Withered spaces. The Reaper is a tough Villain to fight, but is fairly well-balanced. Heroes will need healing in a game against him - the Healing Herbs from the Blacksmiths, lots of visits to the Doctor's Surgery or recruiting Doctor Manning to their Hunting Party. If you have The Coast Expansion , then someone playing Doctor Edwards as a Hero or buying the Exotic Herbs from the coastal town would be helpful. Lucy Hanbrook, from Hero Pack One , can heal her own wounds and might come into her own here. The new heroes are thoughtful contributions. Frederic Leon is a French aristo in exile: he gets to recruit a Militia at a cost of 2 Investigation, which is useful since it gives him +1 to Wounds & Combat. He also gets the option of not revealing an Elder's Secret, even when he's instructed to. This has the potential to be very useful indeed, but not so much versus the Reaper who doesn't use Evil Elders. His other power of buying Event Cards is, frankly, a bit weak. There are better things to be spending Investigation on in most games.Sara is the "Bright Witch" who gains Investigation automatically each turn. She can prevent Wounds to herself or to Elders and, though she can't use Guns, she gets +2 Fight Dice against Demons and Magic opponents. She's a complex, interesting character who might be particularly useful against the Reaper because she can prevent wounds.Abigail Sturn is a student of the occult who uses Cunning as her Fight Dice (as if she had the Tools of Science at her disposal). Moreover, she gets +1 Cunning for each book she owns. Of course, the crazy Reverend Harding tends to burn books, but once more if you use The Coast Expansion, there are more books to be found. Abigail also gets +1 Wound Level for each Occult Item she owns so she has the potential to stack into a powerful character.Jack Fellows the Privateer is a duellist whose only power is that he can re-roll his missed Fight Dice. Now, if you can stack Jack up with lots of lovely muskets and cutlasses or boost his Fight Dice in some other way (like upping his Cunning and getting him the Tools of Science), this can potentially make him very dangerous indeed. If Jack has an unlucky time and never gets the boosts, then his power never really comes into its own.The Event Cards include a few spells to extend the "witchy" tone of this expansion and some oddball Mystery Cards like "Lightning Strike!" as well as a new card for each of the original four Corner Locations. This is a perfectly nice addition to A Touch of Evil that introduces variety and interest. The new characters seem balanced and either introduce new options for players (like Frederic Leon or Sara) or else allow characters to grow markedly more powerful in play if they pick up good cards (Jack, Abigail). The Reaper is a change from the standard fare Villains (such as the boring Necromancer from Hero Pack One). The only criticism is the price. You're paying a lot for a three-quarters empty box, a half dozen cards, four plastic figures and five heavy card plates. If it was £5 cheaper, I'd rate it one star higher.
