Product Description Nancy Archer has had an alien encounter and it's left her 50 ft. tall! Now she sees the men in her life from a new angle--looking down on them--and it's time to fight back! Director: Nathan Juran Starring: Allison Hayes, Yvette Vickers, William Hudson .com Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned... especially when you're fending off The Attack of the 50-Foot Woman! One of the most beloved camp classics of the 1950s begins with a three-way recipe for sci-fi disaster: Cheating husband Harry (William Hudson) is married to alcoholic heiress Nancy (Allison Hayes), but he's got a scheming mistress named Honey (Yvette Vickers) and a burning desire for Nancy's lavish inheritance. But before the greedy lovers can say "Super-Size Me," the insanely jealous Nancy gains a towering advantage: After exposure to radiation from a spherical alien satellite, Nancy grows to a height of (yep, you guessed it) and proceeds to wreak havoc as a giant dame with an attitude problem. As often happened with cheesy sci-fi and horror films of the Eisenhower era, the movie's deliriously exploitative poster promised more than the movie actually delivers, which perhaps explains why director Nathan Juran (whose next film was the comparatively lavish The 7th Voyage of Sinbad) opted to be credited as "Nathan Hertz." And while the special effects are cheesy and cheap (involving oversized miniatures, repeated process shots, see-through double-exposures, and a giant, rubbery arm used for King Kong-like clutching scenes), it's still possible to feel a hint of compassion for poor ol' Nancy, and that--along with the enjoyable performances of Hayes, Hudson, and Vickers--is probably why Attack has gained such a loyal cult following over the decades. Fueled by atomic-age paranoia and timeless human foibles, it's a feminist revenge thriller with lasting appeal, remade in 1993 with better special effects and Daryl Hannah in the title role. --Jeff Shannon

Set Contains: Although he's more of a well-informed movie buff than a serious film historian, sci-fi and horror expert Tom Weaver is an amiable host for a feature-length commentary with Attack of the 50-Foot Woman's comely costar, Yvette Vickers. It was Weaver who encouraged Vickers to become a frequent guest at sci-fi conventions, and their commentary provides an enjoyably casual history of Attack's low-budget production. Perhaps out of respectful discretion, Weaver never mentions Vickers's centerfold appearance as Playboy's Playmate of July 1959, but Vickers has a lot of behind-the-scenes stories to tell, including the efforts of a zealous publicist to concoct a phony feud between Vickers and costar Allison Hayes, a B-movie veteran who was actually quite kind to her younger, less experienced costar. As a nostalgic trip down memory lane, the commentary's worth a listen for any fan of '50s sci-fi and horror. --Jeff Shannon See more

EXCELLENT MOVIE
We enjoy older movies and this one is a classic. If you're into older sy-fi stuff, this is a nice one.

"There's a giant woman heading for town!"
"That's her!"Poor RICH Nancy Fowler Archer is married to a skunk (William Hudson as Harry Archer). After a brief stay in a sanatorium (high class loony bin), her doctor (Roy Gordon as Dr. Cushing) talks her into taking the skunk back, to everyone's everlasting grief. Why she's fixated on this dolt is anyone's guess. He's cheating on her with a slut of some dimensions (Yvette Vickers as Honey Parker). The whole town knows it, she knows it, but what can she do? Love is not only deaf, dumb, and blind; it's stupid and highly contagious. In a snit and out for a drive, poor RICH Nancy runs smack-dab into Glinda's stolen bubble. Out pops a giant with an eye for fancy jewelry. Screams all around, poor RICH Nancy effects a getaway (knowing the stiff penalty for drinking and driving), she hoofs it back into town (heels and all), wailing all the way. Sadly, no one believes the poor lush. Therein lays the beginnings of a dastardly plot as Honey-doodle soon coaxes her fellow adulterer into MURDER! Ah, the best laid plans of mice and men. It didn't help that poor RICH Nancy kept handing them ammunition in the form of rash declarations. "You're going to think I'm crazy!" "I'm not crazy, I did see it!" At least her steadfast butler (Ken Terrell) stood by her through thick and thin, big and TALL.This movie has it all, pathos, infidelity, revenge, handy hypodermic syringes lying about, a dim deputy, and giant rubber hands. What other Sci-fi flick delivers that much suspense, a nifty dance number, and BIG footprints.Trush me, this is a 'classic' in every sense of the word and then some. It's positively Shakespearean in scope and depth.

Hell Knows No Fury
Attack of 50 Foot Woman movie is one hour and six minutes long and was released in theaters on May 15, 1958. Warning to all husbands thinking of cheating on their wives, don't. Basically this story tells what might happen if one does cheat on his wife. The movie starts off with Nancy Archer (Allison Hayes) driving fast on Route 66 and almost crashes into a spherical shaped spacecraft and giant emerges trying to grab her. Nancy runs back into town screaming and the town believes she is drunk. She convinces her husband, Harry Archer, to take a trip into the dessert to find the alien spaceship and prove she is not crazy. Finally when Nancy has finally given up hope the two find the spherical shaped spacecraft. Nancy goes up to the spaceship and is capture by the giant alien and Harry flees to his mistress Honey Parker; played by Yvette Vickers. The giant returns Nancy back to her home and due some radiation Nancy grows to fifty feet tall. Nancy goes looking for Harry and finds him with Honey. She kills Honey and takes Harry. They both die when the sheriff shoots a power line transformer and it blows up in front of them. Though some of the special effects are lame; there is a spaceship that looks like an oversized ping pong ball and a large rubber hand. If only fell short at the end. You only get about six minutes of the 50 foot Nancy Archer and the ending could have been a little bit better. This movie is still a great one and the Attack of 50 Foot Woman gets an AAA+++.DVD FEATURESPlay MovieScenesFeatures* Commentary by Yvette Vickers and Tom WeaverLanguages

Perfect for 75+ senior who loved science fiction as a child
No complicated story line to follow. Husband can just watch and remember going to matinee movies as a youngster and enjoying., No awful violence, no shocking scenes - pretty funny for those of us who don't have cognitive issues. Perfect for senior with memory/dementia - easy to follow story, no twists or turns.

TERRIBLE Movie. Go Watch It!
I recently saw the poster for this movie in a restroom in a restaurant, of all places. When I first saw the poster, I really believed it was just a spoof of some kind -surely not a real movie. But I checked, and sure enough, it was real. I was a kid in the 50's, but I somehow managed to miss this movie. So as and adult now, I just had to go watch this thing, while having some idea of what it would be like.Sure enough, it was just what I thought. I think I read somewhere that they made this movie in about a week, on about a five-hundred dollar budget (kidding, but not by much). And brother, it shows, too. Terrible movie! But it's like watching a train wreck. You know that it is SO bad, but you just can't look away! It was so bad, it was funny in a lot of places (but it's not supposed to be a comedy). So if you sometimes like to watch one of those movies that are so bad that they're good, then go watch it - you'll like it. As long as you know what to expect!

Make sure you buy the version on a pressed disc, NOT a cheap burned disc.
Make sure you buy the version on a pressed disc, NOT a cheap burned disc.A pressed disc is always best. (They are bright silver on the back.) If a studio feels they MUST burn a disc, M-Disc should be utilized. A burnable M-Disc costs about a dollar more but it will last for CENTURIES. Sadly, most, BUT NOT ALL copies were burned on the old-fashioned, purple dye type disc that will only last 5-10 years. For the Pressed Version, look for the case that is mostly yellow with a black bar across the top and bottom. When you search the description there'll be NO mention of "made to order DVD-R". Yes it will cost more but WELL worth it. Look for; ASIN: B000OHZJFKYvette Vickers (Miss July 1959 for Playboy) stars in the tale of a jilted divorced woman (Hayes) who grew to 50 feet after an encounter with space aliens and gets revenge on her ex-husband and the mistress (Vickers) who made her life miserable. The audio commentaries by Vickers and film historian Tom Weaver were a treat. This film is MUCH better than the horrible 1993 remake starring Darryl Hannah.

Did not stand the test of time.
I actually enjoy the b-movie vibe of the 50's and 60's. This was difficult to watch as the acting and editing was awful. I guess the idea was to bring a date to the cinema and see something spectacular. Now, where is that giant attacking Ant movie...?
