HelmsMate Tiller Extension Handle U | Universal Joint Model | 37"-51" Extendable

Bought it for my kayak. Works flawlessly. Quick release adjustments and smooth universal. Def worth the money. At least would be solid enough to fight back jaws, should he dare come thru and try snag my fish...Only complaint is the part where it goes around your handle is a little flimsy feeling. Ived just about cranked her to the max and it feels solid. But as your tightening and it forms to the handle, I cant help but baby the wing nut. Afraid the plastic might snap. But in reality it's meant to give alittle to hold the throttle tight. Which it does. Quite Well actually.. Never had it come off either with my decisions rivaling that of a 3yr old. While adjusting and turning and losing the handle and almost flipping. I would secure the handle under a bungee cord so it kinda like a cheap autopilot. Just keep your killswitch lanyard clipped to you. Or you'll be swimming with free willy.

Product works great , gives u the ability to add a motor to kayak or smaller boat and control it feom a distance . its adjustable in length and will fit both electric and gas tiller handles .

Installed a 9.9hp Mercury kicker outboard on my 18ft Tracker deep V fishing boat on the Port side of the 150hp main outboard. The driver's seat is a good length from the 9.9 tiller handle. I would have to sit on the main motor deck at the back of the boat in order to use the 9.9 tiller handle - which is not acceptable. This Ironwood Pacific HelmsMate Tiller Extension Handle U | Universal Joint Model | 37"-51" Extendable allows me to control speed and direction of the 9.9 kicker from the boat driver seat, allowing me to watch 4-6 trolling rods without having the constantly be turning around.

I got this to use on my 14' Livingston boat with a 9.9 Force Gamefisher outboard. I had to remove the rubber grip on the outboard tiller as well as the rubber insert on the tiller extension handle for it to fit. I've only used it once but without the rubber grips, it fell off easily. I will need to find something to wrap the tiller with to provide more grip without bulk.That being said, I found the U-Joint fairly easy to learn and I could sit further forward to better balance the boat to keep the bow from rising up too high. It was easy to steer with only slight movement of the extension. You can control the length by pulling out the inside center pole the catch on several possible stop points on the outer pole. If you move the outside pole over the U-Joint, there is a stop point so you can make it a fixed extension at the shortest length.One other problem I found is that when I sit further forward, I can't reach the shut off switch or the gear shift lever. This means you can't stop the motor quickly if needed. I will have to figure out if I can control these without walking back to the motor.

This is great to extend the tiller , seems to be well constructed and should suit our needs.

I started back fishing. I have a Great White trolling motor. My first fishing trip reminded me I needed an extension. This extension fits great and works great maneuvering direction and controlling motor speed.

I have a Old Town Big Water 132 with a 55lb thrust Newport Motors trolling motor on the back. This handle allows me to stay in my seat facing foward and comfortably control the motor, the knuckle really helps with allowing you to control the motor without alot of movement. It comes with a thick rubber inter sleeve for smaller handles but the sleeve can be removed for bigger handles aswell. The handle extension is Definitely worth the money.

Well made, operates fine but the swivel joint gets hung up at times and to try and spin it around to correct, it obviously causes the the throttle to turn, accelerating or slow down when you weren't intending. Maybe I just have to get used to its function, but right now, I've taken it off and sit at the stern using the the motor's tiller. I think I'd have done better getting one with just a straight extension arm and no swivel joint. It's not functional for meSo it's just sitting there on the floor of the dinghy, I guess kind of a waste of money- for me anyway. Might work better with other engines, etc.I have a Merc 3.5 HP on my 9 foot dinghy. Hopefully it works well for you!
