Alexander The Great: A Novel

Great Book!
I purchased this book as a way to teach my high school students about Alexander the Great. Yes, it is fiction, but it's packed with historical facts about Alexander's life. I feel that most history books only throw random dates and facts at students, and unrealistically expect them to remember all of it. I believe my students were able remember more about Alexander's place in history and his significance by reading this book. My students loved this book; they were engaged, and always wanted to read ahead. They are all able to recall the events of Alexander's life more easily than any other section of history, and I believe it's because of this book!

great read....for anyone
The book is comptivating and an easy read. It has sparked an interest as to what happened after the end of Alexander the Great. It also has me wanting to understand what he was like just a little more. Anyone wanting to learn a little about history and a great warrior would find this book of interest.

Four Stars
He had written better. Not surprisingly, he avoided discussing Alexander's romantic life.

A quick read.
Informative. Maybe something lost in translation. Not Nikos’s best work for me.

Again Nikos Kazantakis is true to form
I love the Nikos expresses himself. He gets ideas over very clearly.

Real and almost journalistic.
A good retelling of recorded reports. Not any fictionalized history here. A surprisingly different Kazantakis here, no melancholia just facts,, retold , by those there to report .

Alexander the Great
Good book about an important historical figure. Kazantzakis has been translated nicely. A book by a Cretan about the son of Filip of Makedonia.

Alexamder the Great jumps off the page in this novella by Nikos ...
Alexamder the Great jumps off the page in this novella by Nikos Kazantzakis . Well worth abandoning summer jobs like dusting and cleaning in order to get through this fascinating book.

Written mainly for children
A very narrow view of what Alexander the Great did. Nothing about the hundreds of thousands of innocents he slaughtered as he massacred his way eastwards.I gave up and deleted the book.
