I have not tried it yet, but I will soon and I hope that I can prepare my canvas without issues. I have tried different brands and most of them are fine with me.

Nice thick gesso - no need to dilute
Good quality gesso; no need to dilute - works out of the bottle - applied with a wide brush. You have to use two coats for canvas. I recommend lightly sanding after the first coat has dried, then apply the second coat. You will have a smoother / more even finish.
