Lonely Planet Atlas of Adventure

Now I Need To Make A Whole New Bucket List! (Or not)
I love traveling, but since I became handicapped, my frequent flyer miles have all expired, and I don't get any "stay at home" miles. What a pity. When I traveled all the time (2-3 weeks/month), I used Lonely Planet books as if they were knowledgeable friends who had been to my destination and scoped out everything I needed to know.Nothing has changed, from Lonely Planet's point of view. They still go everywhere, scope out everything and anything you want to see or do, and present it in a way that gives a slightly wimpy traveler like myself confidence. But not enough to make me want to do some of this stuff. The book outlines and talks you into 150-ish different outdoor "adventure" (which usually means dangerous) things to do. Even when I was healthy, there was no way I would Paraglide in Iceland, or anywhere else for that matter. But, I would love to try a Zipline adventure through the rainforest, and this book tells me all the wheres and hows. Mostly, though it's for sitting together on the sofa, glasses of wine in hand, and going through the book with your favorite travel buddy. You can either dream about all the adventures (like me) or go find the most dangerous ones and do them (I hear my brother calling). This book ignites the dreams, and if you decide a particular adventure or location is right for you, I promise that Lonely Planet will have a detailed guidebook of that location that will act as your knowledgeable friend, the one who goes everywhere and scopes out locations for you. Now, all I have to do is find a doctor who will give me the okay to try a Zip Line!

Great Christmas present option
Gave this as a Christmas present to someone who I knew enjoyed quirky travel adventures. It went down very well. Great book with lots of interesting adventures and photos. Great coffee table style book, with lots of inspiration

The best #BucketList travel book out there
Lonely Planet’s Atlas of Adventure is truly a bucket list book for the thrill seeking traveler. Some like to sit on their cruise ship veranda and sip bloody marys in the morning. Others want to kayak down a thundering river as the sun rises in a country only a handful of people have ever even heard of. This book is aimed at the second group. The Lonely Planet travel library are books that will point you in a direction aimed at your unique life style. For me, I’m an armchair adventurer and just enjoy reading and looking at the wonderful pictures. This edition is an encyclopedia of thrills arranged alphabetically by country. From Afghanistan (comes with warning about current political resurgence of Taliban which limits options) to Zimbabwe. Each country has pictures, Some with maps, and icons listing thrills (Bike packing. Cat skiing, Sky running, Kloofing). Have you heard of Rogaining? Neither had I until I learned it was wildly popular in Australia.Of course it covers the more common and mundane sports like wind surfing and parasailing. This book makes great reading for the person who is eager to participate in exhilarating activities that involve physical risk. Also for folks like me who like to sit in a safe armchair and read about it.
