Quiet and efficient!
As an elementary teacher, pencil sharpening is a big deal. I purchased two of these to have for student helpers to use at the end of each day. These sharpeners help get the job done quickly and quietly. I highly recommend them.

Lasts!
Worked well in a classroom with kids so I bought another. Tough. It is about indestructible, because believe me kids are hard on things.

Great sharpener except for one thing
I bought this sharpener primarily to sharpen Derwent charcoal pencils. Unfortunately. sharpener keeps on breaking the lead of the charcoal pencil. It doesn’t sharpen well. Plus it gets stock sometimes and it just wouldn’t sharpen any pencil at all. I was able to sharpen prismacolor pencils to a sharp point (sometimes not) and other regular pencils though. But my main reason for purchasing this is for my Derwent charcoal pencils that I simply couldn’t sharpen. Do I recommend it? For prismacolor colored pencils specifically …. maybe ( but I only sharpened 1 or 2 pencils so I can’t guarantee). For Derwent charcoal pencils or any charcoal pencils for that matter, NO. So I am returning it. However, this pencils, maybe good for regular pencils and hard core colored pencils. But it’s not what I need it for.And another thing… removing the clear case if you want to clean it, it was a struggle which is maybe one of the safety features it has.Overall, it’s still a good pencil sharpener. It’s just not for me … for what I need it for exactly.

Solid, stable, sharpens to a deadly point, hasn't broken a single tip
This sharpener is larger and heavier than most. That is a distinct advantage. It's motor is powerful - AC, not battery-powered. Pencils are sharpened quickly and to a very sharp point. And the most important point to me given the unpleasant history I have had with pencil sharpeners for the last few years. IT DOES NOT BREAK TIPS. At this point I have probably used it 20-30 times on half a dozen pencils and it has not broken a single one. The bin holds lots of shavings and is easy to remove and empty when it gets full. All in all a perfect device. I would DEFINITELY buy it again though I suspect I will never have to.

Took a while to figure out how to empty the bin
It is difficult to empty the bin. Especially since there are no instructions. Did not come out easily and took about 15 minutes to figure out how to do it. Not sure if I am doing it right but did get it open. AND, I am an engineer!Otherwise, it does sharpen pencils well.

A Committed Manual Sharpener Approved
The media could not be loaded. Pencil nerd here! I have included pictures of my manual sharpeners. When you love pencils, you love the tactile experience. Smelling the cedar, watching the wood barrel gingerly curl off as you manually sharpen. It’s all part of the experience of collecting. The image I attached is to show my familiarity with manual pencil sharpeners. But then one day, you get old and your hands hurt a bit. If you log onto Amazon on PrimeDay to find a great deal on an automatic sharpener, you may succumb to buying as did I.To be clear, an automatic pencil sharpener will never be as good as my third favorite manual sharpener. But as far as automatics go, the X-ACTO is great. What I love most is shown in this video. I can insert a pencil with one hand while filming and do not need to anchor the machine. It’s sturdy. Reminds me a bit of the Panasonic KP 110 my family had in the late 80s, early 90s. My parents still have it. Talk about a product for life. Here’s to hoping X-ACTO is mine.I’ve only had the pencil sharpener for one week. If anything changes, I will return to update this review which I hope helps someone.

A gem of a sharpener.
Came quickly, nicely packaged, and ready to go. In order to prolong its life I keep it behind my desk and have a supply of sharpened pencils ready for students who need them. In other words, they won't be using this! Worked quickly and efficiently for every pencil I've put into it. If you are still using a manual sharpener in your classroom, get one of these. You won't miss that ugly sound, I guarantee it. Price is just right and I actually think it's worth more.Wish I'd got one sooner.
