Very technical. Excellent for the student herpetologist. Thorough, comprehensive and a worthy update to 1st edition.

This is absolutely the pinnacle of North American turtle knowledge. Pages upon pages of detailed descriptions and life histories for every testudine of the continent north of the Rio Grande. I use it primarily for identifying museum specimens to species to be added to our collection, but I've also used it for research projects on turtle ecology and niche partitioning. Everything you could ever want to know about North American turtles is in this book. Pair it with Bonin's Turtles of the World (translate by Peter Pritchard) for a complete look at turtle diversity.

Very informative and impressive book. Most photos were great but the sea turtles. Those the photos weren’t the best. I believe photos or illustration could make or break a book. Most of the photos were great and showed detail.

Now this is a treaty of the turtles of Canada and the United States! Within this book pages you'll find a wealth of information on the described species. Biology, ecology, reproduction, growth and status in the wild are but some of the topics covered within. Well worth the price for people who are serious about this amazing animals.

I have an extensive library on the natural world. This book is a prized part of that library. I have the original edition and this book has some very meaningful updates. I recommend this for any student or advanced turtle hobbyist. This book is full of excellent pictures and reference material. I have to recommend this book to the highest degree.

I have been meaning to buy this book for awhile. It exceeded my expectations. It's packed with detailed information about natural history and beautifully illustrated as well. There are even accounts for each species about their longevity. Beautifully summarized and highlights how appropriate turtles are for ecological studies. I highly recommend this book!
