Outstanding value
It's a Tannoy, I'd like to say, "nuff said", but many don't know Tannoy. Tannoy dual concentric speakers are some of the most accurate reproduction devices ever created due to the physics of their tri-axial time alignment, no other loudspeaker does this due to patents and probably acceptance of less than true reproduction. When I saw Tannoy had a large diaphragm condenser microphone I knew I needed to check it out. It is the transducers, namely the microphones and loudspeakers that convert acoustical energy to electrical and back again, and therefore have the greatest influence on the net sound quality. The electronics in between, while important, vary in their influence far less, ... unless they are utter garbage. This microphone is truly a great value for the roughly $100 asking price. It's very clean, relatively linear, and even comes with a suspension kit. It lacks a strong Fletcher Munson Curve boost commonly found in large diaphragm mics, in favor of the more accurate linear response, so it FEELs a little thinner on the low end when in fact it's pretty accurate. I suspect you'd be hard pressed to find another mic in this price range with better performance and accuracy. Does it stand up to a $4K German studio mic? Probably not, but for home studios, this one is a winner. I mean if you can get 95% of the quality of a bone-fide studio condenser for 1/400th of the cost, and that is your budget, go for it.
