Elephant in the Room Books Thyroid Patient's Manual: Recovering from Hypothyroidism to Good Health

Your go-to manual when you have a thyroid problem. A must read on the road to recovery.
Having no thyroid and becoming really sick after my surgery, I have read my fair share of books on thyroid and adrenals. I was an early adopter of Paul's protocol, which he writes about in his other two books, Recovering with T3 and The CT3M Handbook. And I recovered. This book is a more general and step-by-step approach to discovering, diagnosing and treating thyroid problems. From all the books I devoured, it has the most useful information and approach. It's written in such a well-thought manner that even a person with brain fog can understand it. It educates you on your own health issues and which steps to take so you can talk in an informed way with your doctor. I am all for educating yourself so that you have the tools to address your doctor and take control over your own recovery. Having that essential knowledge is a priceless tool, and Paul gives it to you in this manual.Hormones, in general, are a complex subject, but Paul has made it very easy. You can also use the book for a quick referral whenever you get stuck in your path to recovery.Besides the relationship between thyroid hormonal imbalances and stress hormone imbalances —adrenals— Paul has also addressed sex hormones, especially for women in peri-menopause and after menopause. I believe this is often a missing link when women approach that age when they start peri- or menopause, which can affect hem as early as the age of 35-40. As is the case with all hormones, when one hormone goes out of balance, other hormones will be affected as well. So this chapter is an essential and important addition in my opinion. If you think you have a thyroid and/or adrenal problem, this is the book to read.

In-depth guide to all things under active thyroid
Having read Dr Isabella Wentz, Datis Kharra, Elle Russ and many of the online sites such as Thyroid UK and Stop The Thyroid Madness, I thought I knew a fair bit about thyroid, albeit from a layperson’s perspective. Turns out that there is still more useful info out there, and The Thyroid Patient’s Manual is another useful resource to add to the collection, would totally recommend it. If only the GPs and endos would read them too!

The brilliant must-have book for thyroid patients!
This book is a must for anyone suffering the pure hell which is thyroid disease! Its simple format is so easy to read and it's packed with the helpful information you would expect your doctor to provide you with; although if you're a thyroid patient you'll know only too well that doctors can't be bothered. Paul has done more for thyroid patients over the last fifteen years than anyone else in this country and I believe that in the future his protocols will become the standard for all doctors and patients to follow. This book explains the importance of vitamins and minerals, tells you clearly what other hormones and factors can impact your treatment and will help you to recover your health. People for whom conventional treatment has failed, often leaving them housebound, bedridden and too weak to stand up for more than a few minutes have been able to return to a healthy, productive life by following Paul's advice, sometimes within months. I also believe he deserves a knighthood for his work; he has given his own personal time for others selflessly in order to address the scandalous lack of care and interest from the medical professionals and has dedicated a considerable part of his life to scientifically researching and developing ways of using thyroid hormones in a totally safe and effective way. This quality of help and advice is extremely difficult to obtain via the usual channels as doctors and endocrinologists will not address thyroid disease as the complicated and serious illness which it so clearly is. This is a chance for patients to educate themselves, take control of their symptoms and regain their lives. Ignore the few negative comments; one of which seems to have been written by someone who hasn't even read the book! Paul has always given the same, straightforward, safe advice; he has never suggested everyone should take T3 only or the circadian dose, he has always stressed safety and care with treatments and dosing and his protocol has been carefully developed to ensure your body's reaction to any treatment is closely monitored at every stage. We are individuals and our reaction to thyroid disease and treatment is individual, too, this is something Paul has always emphasised and if conventional doctors would only get off their high horses and acknowledge it too the world would be a far better place for thyroid patients. Don't just buy this book, tell all your friends about it too! Encourage every doctor and specialist to read it. With Paul's excellent research and pioneering methods we can all change the future for thyroid sufferers for the better. Alleviating the misery of literally millions of people worldwide; surely that's worth being part of? It's time to shake up the world of thyroid disease well and truly and help people get their lives back and the more people who read and talk about this book, the more people will be able to regain the health they deserve.

Essential reading for patients, General Practitioners and Endocrinologists
A very clear explanation of the thyroid and its actions on the human body from the synthesis of thyroid hormones to how thyroid hormones act in the cell. Paul explains with references to reputable and responsible science how triiodothyronine or T3 is necessary for correct cell functioning. He also shows how the majority of endocrinologists are lagging behind contemporary advances in thyroid research and how this rigid adherence to a failing paradigm is harming patients. Paul explains with great clarity why therapy with T3 is a need for those patients for whom conventional T4 only therapy does not work. He shows that T3 therapy is first of all supported by a body of respectable medical opinion and that it is totally logical to carry out such T3 therapy - either in conjunction with T4 or on its own.A marvellous book well written, understandable, up to date and logical. I recommend this to patients and also to all General Practitioners and Endocrinologists.

Knowledge is Power
I wish this book had been available ten years ago when I first suspected something was wrong with my thyroid, but could not get diagnosed because my TSH was within normal ranges. If you don't know what TSH is, why this is all that is initially tested, or why it is not a reliable indication of being hypothyroid (under active thyroid), I recommend reading the book. Even when I had further testing, I did not understand my results, so just went along with the doctors recommendation, which was to do nothing, as according to them I was fine, even though I didn't feel fine. Now, having read and studied the book, along with his other two, 'Recovering with T3' and 'CMT3 Manual', I now understand my results and can knowledgeably talk to my doctor with confidence. If you suspect you have a problem with your thyroid, or have been diagnosed hypothyroid and are on medication, this book will tell you all you need to know such as how the endocrine system works, different types of meds available, tests to have, recommended supplements, and so much more. Although the author is not a doctor, he does have over 30 years of personal knowledge which is conveyed in easy to understand language. The book is well researched, referencing many recent research papers. I would thoroughly recommend this book to all thyroid patients who would like a greater understanding of their thyroid.
