CPU Cap Opener CPU Heatsink Delid Tool to Remove Cover for

Excellent for my i7 7700. Threads were a little stiff/ not cut perfectly but ran the screw in and out a few times and cleaned up with oil. No problems. Also no instructions included but let's face it, if you're de-lidding ANY CPU, you should already know the mechanics of what's involved and how this tool plays a part in that. Once contact was made with the IHS, another firm full turn and it popped free. Cleaned and reassembled with Thermal grizzly liquid metal and temps are lower. Can't beat the price.

Works, but scratches the hell out of your cpu

I had never delid a CPU before and was a little intimidated, but this cheap tool made the process easy and stress free. For background context: my old intel CPU started having overheating issues. While under load it quickly would jump up to +90C degrees, start to thermal throttle, and at worse cause my PC to hard crash without an error message or blue screen. I discovered online that apparently this generation of CPUs did not have the top plate soldered to the bottom portion of the CPU, and that overtime the internal thermal paste would dry up and become ineffective. My PC was old (4th gen i7 w/ DDR3 ram) and I was either going to have to do a whole rebuild for +$1000 or try to delid it and apply new internal thermal paste for $10. I am really glad I decided to give this a try. With the tool the top portion of the CPU easily popped off. I was able to *carefully* remove the old dried-up thermal paste, apply new thermal paste, and then put the CPU back in my PC. Now while under load I only get max temps of around 50C, down from 100C. Very happy with how it went. CPU working fine 6-months later. I could have gone the extra step and applied some non-conductive glue to resecure the top section of the CPU to the bottom, but it is not required.

Used it to delid an i5-4440 and an i7-7700k, and it's as simple as setting the cpu in the tool and tightening down slowly until it breaks free. My pc with the i5 was running VERY hot, so I decided to delid and use quality thermal paste and now it is super stable even with the stock cpu cooler. My pc with the i7 was running at decent temps, but after deliding and using quality thermal paste it is now running around 10 degrees Celsius cooler. 10/10 would recommend!

Worked well for delidding a 6700K and 4790K. Please be sure to look where your capacitors are located on your cpu prior to removing the lid as you don’t want to damage them in the process.

Could have been even better if the unit was a little longer as you could also fit the newer gen CPU's into the tool
