Total waste of money. Did not work at all. I was hoping for some extra security when I fall in the home. Very disappointed.

Don't risk your life!!!
This Guardian Alert lasted 34 days, then the base stopped charging. The rude customer service insisted it was bad batteries and would send me new ones, which they did. But that means I was without a working alert system, which I need. While I was waiting, I brought the original batteries to Radio Shack and had them tested. They were fine. It was a faulty base. I returned to product to Amazon. I then purchased the same product from another vendor that had 90 day guarantee. When I pressed the alarm to see if it worked, nothing happened. I pressed several time and it did nothing. If I had had an emergency, I would have been in big trouble. I had to return this unit too. If you need an alert system, please don't risk your life by getting this product.. I'm dead serious.

Save Money
Buy this medical alert and stop wasting money. I know from personal experience. I had one that required a monthly charge of about forty dollars a month. It worked on only one level of my house and activating it for emergencies could take up to two minutes for a response. That’s why I ordered this. Now I can be on any level if my house and even outside and it works. And I’m connected directly to an emergency operator, not a middle man. True, my contact person will not be called, but this has been easily remedied by wearing a medical alert necklace with contact information on it.

Good for a simple device
If you know someone who has a sound mind, no nearby relatives or close friends to call in case of need yet is at risk for failing or other medical emergency, this is a good choice. It's a simple plug-in-and-it-works device, no programming required. Just plug in the electric, plug in the phone line, struggle to put the battery in the device (easier said than done) and it works. The downside is that the test function won't work in some situations - such as if your house has older phone wiring. The test function checks to see if there is a dial-tone, and if there is not, the test fails. With older wiring, customer support told me there can be sufficient delay that the test function fails when in fact the device works. So in this case, the proper way to test is to have the line engaged (in other words, be on a call already) and press the CALL button. This will make the device dial, so the caller will hear the 3 beeps of the 911 dial, and then the device will join the engaged line and the user can hear from both the phone handset as well as the 911 device. It cannot call 911 because the line is already engaged.(The obvious point here, which is not stated in the manual, is you cannot use the test button to test the device function if the phone line is already engaged. I called my Dad to get him to test the device according to the instructions in the manual and it failed every time. The manual does not say the test will check for a dial tone, so we didn't think of how the line must not be engaged when the test button is used. Doh! I think the manual should have said "the line must not be engaged before starting the test" and maybe they can avoid some support calls..)Another oddity is that to hang up the 911 device, you must press the test button. (I didn't see this in the manual either) If the device is used to call 911 and when finished, the user forgets to hang up the device by pressing the test button, then the line will continue to be engaged - in other words, no one can call in until either the test button is pressed on the device, or someone goes to a real phone and picks up the receiver and replaces it again. My Dad figured that out after making a non-emergency call to 911 to fully test the device, and when finished he later heard that standard phone company recording "if you would like to make a call, please hang up and try again..." so he knew the "phone" was "off the hook".Finally, the device runs on alkaline batteries, not rechargeable batteries - the base unit does not act as a battery charger. The test button can be used to check the battery state, and when the batteries need replacing, it requires a jewelers screwdriver and very good dexterity to handle to very small screws of the battery compartment cover. So, the device does was it claims to do, but it has a few oddities that you may stumble into.My Dad doesn't hear well, but he can hear well enough through this device to have a conversation. The sense of security it gives all of us is worth the price of this device. We like that the device works to allow callers to talk, rather than simply having the base unit act as a speaker and microphone as other devices do, which is useless if the user lives in a house with many rooms.
