the idea that this was a book is stretching things, it was more a pamphlet, to short to be informative

Meh
This is one point of view. These Charles River books are really long essays. They give a decent overview of a topic and provide a starting point for future reading. I’m not an expert on the topic but this book seems to have a heavy British bias.

and the results (both good and bad)
This is quite an overview of British activity in modern India, Kashmir, and Pakistan. It covers all the battles, but also the cultural divides, the British attempts to deal with them, and the results (both good and bad). This also covers a vast amount of time, from the 18th century to the days of Gandhi and Indian independence.

Good history
While not fascinating, it was a good piece of history. I usually get good books from this publisher. So, if you want to know about the British Raj, this is a good choice. Concise.

Interesting but wordy
A good overview of the British and India for someone that is not knowledgeable of that history. I had to really slog through it as so many of the quotes and bibliography notations were done a century ago when people used many more words to describe something. At the end, there was not much of a conclusion...well, sort of...but not very concise as to whether the British were helpful or harmful to India. Most of the book went back and forth.
