Q: Is the lid supposed to "click in" with the bottom piece because mine doesn't.

No it doesn't and it is for that reason I do not like it. If you even bump this hile water is in it it spills out because the top dos not click to the bottom. It has already ruined my furniture. Othe diffusers that I have had the top locks to the bottom and water does not spill out. Wish I could return it but I missed the window in whixch to do so. My fault, I should have returned it instantly.
