Dr. Fulford's Touch of Life: The Healing Power of the Natural Life Force

Wonderful book for people seeking outside of the mainstream
A friend of mine who is a massage therapist and is exploring cranio-sacral work gave me this book. I have had pains in my lower back and neck for several years now; i've also been through some painful events 20 years ago, and again 10 years ago with the loss of my respective parents. My current life is very busy with famile (children), work and projects and emotionally difficult at times with a strained relationship with my husband. Overall though I'm a positive and upbeat individual believing in the spiritual and soulful nature of humans, beyond just mind and body. I've been more and more interested over the years in the relationship between body, mind and spirit since the death of my mom which has been a very difficult and painful event for me at a time that I was just starting in life (I wasn't 20 yet).I am considering seeking treatment with a DO for my back and neck pains, and reading this book has emphasized the importance for leading a balance life and not just 'patching' some areas with perhaps a visit to the chiropractor's office that will mostly focus on the spine or taking muscle relaxant medicine or simple pain medicine. This is a great book, with a lot of food for thoughts and practical exercises for anyone to do. I am thankful to my friend for giving me this very valuable book and wish that I would have received it while Dr Fulford was still alive so that I could have thanked him for giving this testimony to us.

simple but very wise
Dr. Andrew Weil devoted a chapter to Dr. Fulford and his medical practice in his best-selling book, Spontaneous Healing, and I recommend that anyone interested in this subject read that as well. Dr. Fulford himself wanted to pass along some of the wisdom he accumulated over 40 years of practicing medicine, so he wrote his simple little book in 1996. He passed away in 1997, showing again how attuned he was to his own physiology. The principles and advice he shares in his book are common sense and basic, but reflect the art of practicing osteopathy at its best. Dr. Fulford was a very humble person; that comes thru loud and clear, but he was also quite a knowledgable practitioner and very aware of the progress of osteopathy and cranial work during his lifetime. This small, easy-to-read book is exceptional and it is my belief that anyone who reads it will come away with much information that can help them maintain good health and quality of life.

Fulford's Philosophy
I'm currently an osteopathic medical student and I first heard of Dr. Fulford in class. In OMT lab it's easy to be skeptical of some of the techniques, including Dr. Fulford's. He understood that there are those who question some of his work, but it seemed like he was an incredible physician who cared about his patients and had success with his techniques. This book gives insight into Dr. Fulford's philosophy on medicine and life. I'm glad I read it because he addresses all facets of medicine and I believe if I stick to his principles I'll be a better clinician. I recommend this book to other osteopathic students/physicians and individual who is interested in health.

Dr. Fulford's Touch of Life
Fascinating background and experience about Dr. Fulford's percussion hammer as described in Ch. 2 of Spontaneous Healing by Dr. Andrew Weil. The percussion hammer he developed can undo the pain resulting from a fall or traumatic birth which unbalanced the body's rhythm; that is, those events can upset the limbic system, which affects the whole body. Dr. Fulford is an osteopath and focuses on that. Is a great alternative to drugs for pain, and may prevent surgery. He includes his medical and spiritual views.
