Not as good as rival products
Okay I was pretty excited to try this as I know Homedics is a decent brand. However, being a huge fan of the Phillips range of IPL machines the bar was set pretty high. For me I was pretty underwhelmed when un-boxing this but didn't allow it to put me off, after all the proof is in the pudding so to speak. This is a small and compact IPL machine which has also comes along with a shaver/trimmer with various heads. In honesty that was a bonus to be thrown in, and although this is slightly cheaper than the Phillips Lumea, I figured it may well perform the same. There are plenty of reviews that describe exactly how these are used, but to be honest if you are investing in a home IPL machine you really need to do your research. I won't go into huge detail about how you use it correctly but ensure that you thoroughly read skin and hair types BEFORE using as this is crucial. If you do everything as instructed then you should see results. FOr me I know the IPL works IF you are consistent with its use. However, because I know this and I also know for a true review you have to test for a longer period of time, I think right now I am more about the physicality of the device as I have a different model and brand to compare to.The thing I liked the least was the shape and how you have to hold the unit to actually get it to work. My other model has a handle and is shaped like a hairdryer shape which makes it easier to keep contact with the skin. In comparison one unit with the button at the front makes it sometimes awkward depending on where you are using it. The other big comparison is that this is wired so is plugged in at the mains meaning again it can make using it awkward, compared with my current one which is cordless.Overall its not a bad unit but I cannot speak for the longevity however, I think like for like I would rather save up a spend a little more and get the opposing brand

Very straightforward to use, good results so far
My sister got salon IPL treatment and it worked for thinning out the hair, it wont completely get rid of it and you will need top up treatments which is costly so investing in a home IPL device like this might seem like a big outlay of cash upfront but if you're serious about permanent hair loss then its definitely worth considering. This pack comes with a handheld IPL machine which is mains operated (cable is a good length to use comfortably near a socket), and a battery operated trimmer which you use to shave the area you're about to treat as the hair needs to be 1mm or less for it to work effectively. The fact that the shaver is included in the bundle is really really useful as it makes the whole process much simpler. The IPL unit is lightweight and will automatically detect your skin type when you start treatment, adjusting the light frequency to suit so you don't have to worry or overthink the process. There are two modes you can use this under, a glide mode which is a little like an epilator but without the pain; you hold down the button and move it slowly across your skin as it delivers pulses of light. This is good for larger areas such as legs. The other mode is called stamp mode which means that you push it down onto a patch of skin, wait till it delivers its light pulse and then move it to the next patch of skin, good for small areas like underarms. It takes anywhere from 3 to 12 weeks to see results, you have to do regular treatments as hair goes through different growth cycles so it'll take a while to catch them all. I've been using this for about six weeks now and have just started to see some results on my legs; regrowth is patchier and the hair is much less dense. I'm happy to see results so quickly although I know this is a slow burn and will need regular use for effective long term results. One thing to note is that you have to limit sun exposure before and after treatment times, and if you are exposed you need to wear a high factor suncream. So this would be a good purchase for use during winter months, use during summertime will be bothersome. In terms of value this is quite well priced compared with others on the market and has the extra bonus of the included shaver. Homedics is a reputable brand and the presentation of the whole kit is very good so this would also make a good gift.

Much the same as any other IPL but slightly cheaper than the other premium brands.
There are numerous IPLs available on the market these days. I’m not sure there is much to choose between them other than their longevity and extra features. This IPL is an update on a previous model and the only difference I could see is that it is supposed to have twice as many flashes as the old one before it fails. That could take a long time to prove so obviously I can’t comment on that. One feature that is good is the automatic skin colour detection. If you’ve not used an IPL before then dark hair on light skin is the most suitable. If you have fair hair and dark skin then an IPL isn’t really suitable. My wife has light skin and IPLs always work very well for her. But her sister has dark skin and it just doesn’t seem to work at all. I think if the IPL detects dark skin then it reduces the strength of the pulses to avoid skin damage but then the downside is that it doesn’t treat the hair.It comes with an adapter for the face (we didn’t try that as my wife only does her legs with it), a trimmer and as it is mains powered then you have to be within striking distance of a mains socket.Overall this seems to work fine but performance wise it wasn’t any better or worse than my wife’s old Philips IPL. It is a little cheaper than the Philips or the Braun but more than the lesser known brands although I would recommend staying with a known brand. I expect they’re all the same but I tend to err on the side of caution.

Well thought out bundle
This IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) bundle is supplied in a branded box containing the IPL device, an attachment for facial hair removal, a compact trimmer with three different heads, a mains lead, an AA battery for the trimmer, a travel bag for both the IPL device and the trimmer and instructions.Hair removal via IPL is not suitable for everyone especially is your hair is blond, ginger or grey or if your skin is very dark or black. It is recommended that you do a patch test 48 hours before treatment and the device will help you adjust the power initially so that you can set the correct intensity. You need to shave the area you wish to work on first and then either run the device over a broader area or flash on particular trouble areas. It is relatively painless with a mild tingling sensation but it is not uncomfortable to use. The unit has to be fully in contact with the skin before it will for safety and you can either use the automatic skin detection or set the intensity manually if you are not happy with it.The results are not instantaneous but after repeated use, you will find the hairs will become finer and take longer to regrow and it is a good system longer-term and without the pain of an epilator! It is not cheap and requires some investment in time both to set it up and to complete the treatment on a regular basis. However compared with the costs of similar treatment at a Salon, it starts to make sense and this bundle is well thought out and is easy to use with clear instructions.
