Testo405i – Anemometer handheld for air velocity, in-duct airflow, and temperature – CFM meter with Bluetooth and App operation

I use this to check the air flow in my HVAC system to determine when air filters need to be replaced. The bluetooth connection and the app work great. (Retired HVAC geek.🙂)

Anemometers are used to measure air speed. Many use little propellers that spin with airflow, but if you need to measure airflow inside of an enclosed space Testo 405i is what you need. Place the Testo measurement probe thru a small hole and air speed is simple. Very easy to use and good value for the design

I'm on my second one of these. I start up industrial dust collection systems and traditionally use a pitot tube and Dwyer digital manometer. I did several duct balancing trips where I used this and the traditional pitot tube and found this to be extremely accurate and much more user friendly so I now only use this. It has a max velocity of 6,000 FPM, so while it works for traditional dust collection it does not work for high performance applications (like Negative Lift systems). Its minimum temp is somewhere around -10 degF, so it does not work in extreme winter conditions. The bulb is sensitive to buildup, but less sensitive than my collapsible pitot tube. Eventually, the bulb does bend over and even if you straighten it the readings will be incorrect. That's when its time to throw it out and get a new one. Over all, I highly recommend.

AC guy could not figure out why my air conditioner was icing up. With this meter I diagnosed low blower performance and he had to replace my defective blower under warranty. Fixed my air conditioner. On line videos show you how to use all the features. It works through you smart phone and is very accurate with multiple measurement methods.

Worked great with the Testo app, rather convenient! Got one use out it when it fell from my stepladder, hit the floor and the bulb wires separated. No external damage. Granted, DON'T drop them, but for the price, it should be able to take a little bounce from field use. Not worth sending it back to Testo, $25 upfront for handling before it is evaluated for an obvious bulb change (Testo does not sell a field replaceable bulb). Don't bang it or drop it. or maybe just buy one that's a little more robust or has a replacement bulb/wand for those times you do.
