Not a great design
To wire the plug you have to remove the connector end, but to do that you have to split the plug in half which doesn't make for a very good weather tight seal. Other styles you just loosen a screw push the connector out of the plug and wire it up. Still not a great seal but better then having the plug split in half.

Impressive quality
That is much better quality that the cheap ones I was used to!!! I'll ave to stick with those from now on, whenever I need to replace a trailer connector.

Superior to 58140
This is a superior solution to the regular Curt 58140 types where the wired side of the connector is retained in the housing by an allen screw. A step farther would be to replace the entire trailer pigtail with a molded connector at a much higher cost or at the very least splice a shorter length of pigtail with the molded connector. The 58145 separates into 2 halves from the rear with interlocks on the wired side that prevent the wired side from pulling out when the plug is removed from the tow vehicle. The only nit I have with the 58145 is the polished chrome type surface where the trailer wire connections are made. It seems to me that some electrolysis could take place between the copper wiring and the connector if moisture gets in. I tried to mitigate that by applying a very thin coat of conductive grease to the surface connections before tightening the screws and then applied a thin coat of NCP-2 corrosion preventive to each connection. Where the 6-7 wires enter the plug and the seams where the halves join would need some attention to make it more water resistant. If the wires are encased in a single cable housing, this is less of a concern, but the seams would need some attention. No big deal, just a heads up. Will check it after a wet season to see how it fared. Either way, superior to the 58140.I am a real fan of the grip feature for pulling the plug from the tow vehicle connector. A nice positive feel.Pros:--Easy to install--wired side won't pull out from housing as with allen screw secured type 58140--nice gripping surface for removal of plug from tow vehicle connectorCon:--Not an entirely water resistant solution, but can be made relatively so.--potential for electrolysis type corrosion longer term. Can possibly be mitigated.

Works well
Although my wiring is different than what is molded into this plug, I just followed the same pattern mine were already and used a paint marker to mark what wires go in each spot in case the wire gets ripped out again from getting hooked on my lower hitch. This unit is much easier to plug in and unplug than the traditional plugs.Update: I hooked the cable on my lower ball hitch again because I forgot and left it on, and ripped the wires out from this plug also. But, because I had marked all the hookups with a paint marker it only took a matter of minutes to refasten my wires. Also, nothing was broken inside of this plug!! I highly recommend and will be buying myself a spare just in case.
