Sea: A World Beneath the Waves (Peek-through Nature)

Ripping off temptation
We loved the book, brilliant illustrations and story except that it has got too many ‘see through’ parts on each page which my toddler has taken as flaps and has ripped all the book off now, we have had it one week only. We have owned the Moon book for 8 months and it is still intact. I believe that the fish in the centre was enough as a see through to story. My toddler loves, I obsessed with the sea life, hence choosing this book for him, but I wish it didn’t have so many opportunities to pulled into pieces, he is usually very good at handling books, but this one was a disaster, hence the one star.

Colourful, calming bedtime.
I've read this at least twice everyday at my son's (3yrs) request since taking delivery last month. Hegarty's words have a calming rhythm and Teckentrup's colorful artwork that does not cartoonise our stunning natural environment is as adored by us both. Their stories 'Tree', 'Bee', 'Moon' and now 'Sea' have been some my son's first words, there's appreciation!

Highly recommend
It has stunning illustrations to capture the otherworldly magic of the sea. The story rhymes and flows beautifully when reading aloud. I love this authors books and I highly recommend all of her books. Particularly this one along with "tree" "bee" and "moon".

Beautiful
We already own Tree and Moon. This is similar to the Tree board book. Very gentle story which journeys through different types of marine animals.

‘Sea’ is an adorable book that will captivate its audience
Sea is a beautiful children’s book that gently shows children what goes on beneath the waves. The copy I had was a board book. The pages were lovely and thick and they had cut our sections in which you can see different fish. The story is told in a rhyming style and the author has gone to great lengths to make sure that all the words rhyme. I couldn’t see any that were out of place or didn’t quite work, which is refreshing. The words also all corresponded to what was happening on each page and were age-appropriate, again this was wonderful to see as so many children’s books use words little children wouldn’t understand just because they rhymed. The illustrations throughout are outstanding and so eye-catching. They bring the sea creatures to life with their vivid colours and attract the attention of the reader. They are full-page which maximises the effect and I’m sure children will enjoy looking at all the fish, sharks, whales, etc.The board book is sturdy and strong enough to be given to a young child without the risk of them ripping it. It is quite a small book so perfect for little hands too.‘Sea’ is an adorable book that will captivate its audience, have them learning in a fun, engaging way, and offer them a lovely, memorable read.*I received a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed

A stunning celebration of an habitat very much at risk.
Following the huge success of “Tree”, “Bee” and “Moon”, this wonderful creative duo are back with a new peek-throughpicturebook focusing on the natural world, this time on the world underneath our seas. This is a fabulous theme to showcase Teckentrup’s talent. Her use of colour, texture and her ability to bring the natural world alive on the page in a way that is both meticulously detailed yet simple enough to be appealing to a very young audiences is second to none. The die-cuts and two recurring little clown fish create a playful effect, and this is accompanied wonderfully by Hegarty’s rhyming text, making it a lovely read aloud. The message about conservation on the last page is beautifully done: subtle, engaging, and encouraging further conversations and action about pollution, it is the perfect way of ending a book celebrating one of Earth’s most fascinating yet most fragile natural habitats.
