Ideally Overbuilt
This is a journal (or notebook) meant to be used. Compared to others, well, there IS no comparison. Many of them are quite good & fulfill many purposes, but the model 390F is "top o' the heap." I previously used the 4"x6" RITR top spiral-bound version & they were also very well-made. However, the 390F is for use even in severely prohibitive conditions & still come away unscathed. I compared prices per square inch between the 4"x6" I previously used & the 390F. The cost per square inch for the 6-pack 4"x6" RITR top spiral was about $0.002 while that for 6 of the 390F was nearly twice that at $0.004. However, you have to take into consideration the 390F has a protective hard cover & its binding is sewn & glued. Pages are individually numbered (a legal asset, if needed), & space is alotted for a table of contents. What I'm illustrating is that the 390F is a superb product & is fairly priced. It's made in the U.S. which is a resounding bonus.

Perfect for the Elements
Portable and nature-proof notebook that worked wonders in my field biology class. The paper could be a little hard to erase on, but I found the notebook very helpful. It practically made me ace the class with the detailed notes I was able to take! I love the color green, and the cover is a pretty olive green with even the inside pages being green tinted.

This is the one
If you are a field inspector, this is your single best piece of equipment. Well...this and the Rite in the Rain pen. This item is not only good for when it's raining and you want to take notes, it's also just as effective for catching a superintendents tears when you tell them most of their steel contractors welds have failed. The tears just slide off of the pages. Beyond that, it also has some sort of radiant psychological power. Say for instance, you are out on the work site and there are a bunch of iron workers standing around. When you unleash this beast and write something down, especially if you pause and look at anyone, they scatter like roaches. In Summary: When combined with the Rite in the Rain pen, you actually can....."write in the rain", with this field journal. The pages are coated in some kind of material that allows for this, but only with the special pen, that apparently has special ink. I was skeptical at first, but as it turns out, it actually works. Worth every penny (that my company pays).

Great Notebook
I used this book for work and the paper is very easy to write with regular pencil and pen. No need for the rite in the rain pen or pencil. Though erasing with a regular pencil will only smear the lead and not actually erase well.

Love it!
Took this on a 5 day backpacking trip and it help up well, didn’t get it wet, but didn’t smudge from sweat and feels like good quality.

Rite-in-the-Rain -- What more needs to be said.
I have used Rite-in-the-Rain products for over 4 decades. I have never had a problem with any of their products. Got this on sale and it was an especially good value. You can't go wrong here if you need a "waterproof" notebook. One benefit (and also downside) is that it's very hard to erase pencil marks. But as these are commonly used for research that's good thing. I use a Sharpie(TM) permanent marker for most of my notes, so erasures are out of the question.

A little expensive, but worth it for a difficult/dirty outside job or hobby
Although I find these a little expensive, I do think they are worth it. I work a very difficult and dirty job in extreme conditions, and these notebooks hold up well against the wear and tear, rain, dirt, etc. They are hard cover and waterproof, so they don't get damaged/mis-shapen.

Great notebook
Work outside in all weather.Moisture beads and dirt wipes away easy. Perforated pages make it easy to remove pages if needed. With the rite-in-rain pen no more smudged/bleeding notes. 10/10 will be purchasing again.

polyvalent

Great product, strongly recommended
Excellent product. This notebook held up extremely well to an entire outdoor field season including several days of heavy rain. The paper will get wet eventually, but only under very heavy rain, and it dries surprisingly well. Strongly recommended.
