Any plastic cement/poly cement will do the job. Citadel sell a small bottle of it with a precision nozzle for small areas. You can also get another brand (the name of which escapes me atm) that has a brush applicator so you don’t end up with too much on the model. You could also use super glue if you need to but the plastic cement is the better one as it fuses the plastic together instead of just gluing them together like super glue.

How many miniatures are there in the set?

You normaly get 10 figures plus xtra bits for them so you cancustomise them,some boxes come with 3 figures,some with only 1,there is allso box sets with the commplete game in there.

It depends if he prefers playing Space Marines or Necrons (the Space Marines are the ones that look like Roman soldiers in coloured space suits, and the Necrons look like metallic skeletons with an Ancient Egyptian fixation). Or would like to try something else (there are a lot of different armies to play). If he likes the Space Marines, maybe get him something like the 'Primaris Chaplin on a Bike', 'Primaris Inceptors', or 'Primaris Redemptor Dreadnought'. They are all good units that blend with what he has and work regardless of how he plays Space Marines. However, these all require plastic cement, unlike the ones in the Recruit edition. Try the 'Primaris Outriders' or 'Invader ATV' if that's a problem instead. If it's Necrons, then possibly 'Skorpekh Destroyers' a 'Canoptek Doomstalker' or a 'Lokhust Heavy Destroyer' (which don't need plastic cement) or 'Immortals/Deathmarks' or 'Triarch Pretorians' (who do). In addition, there's a whole host of other things to do with building and painting the models, literature (some of which is quite violently graphic, so Games Workshop/Black Library has made some less adult-themed books too), rules books and more. You'll probably need to your son or daughter about this, though. I hope that helps.
