Control your IR devices along with your PC with the same remote
If you're looking at this remote, you've probably been searching for something very specific to control your home theater PC or other device. If you're like me, you've found that it's difficult to find one remote that will control all of your A/V components as well as your computer, and there are very few products out there that fit the bill. The RII K25A isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn close to exactly what I wanted: something that would turn on and off my TV, as well as give me fine control over XBMC and Windows Media Center. Check out the picture - see all those orange-outlined buttons? Those are the Infrared programmable buttons that will allow you to control any device with an IR receiver. With some tinkering, it will learn the IR codes for your TV so you can turn it on and off, and use the rest of the controls once everything is on. Sounds good so far.Next, this remote comes with a really small USB dongle for your PC which is nice, especially if cabinet space is an issue. It's about the size of a dime, all told. I don't have too many issues with range, although I have found that it gets a little spotty past 15 feet, so I ran a USB extension cable out to a more central location. That's really just a limitation on my space, but keep it in mind if you have similar issues. The keyboard on the back needs no special mapping to work with Windows. It just does as you would expect it to, right out of the box. The air mouse or "flying squirrel" if you like is a bit tricky to get used to for a couple of reasons though: First, it's extremely sensitive, which is true for many of these, so you'll have to get used to that. Luckily, resetting the positioning is fairly simple. You just swipe the mouse off the screen far enough away from the edge, then come back, and you should be centered again. It does take some getting used to, but after a while, I'm finding I have no issues with it. One other, slightly odd thing is that if you notice, the "OK" button is an IR button, so it does not perform a mouse click like you might think it should. Instead, there's a button directly below the directional pad that is your left click. It can be a bit counterintuitive if you've never used a remote like this before, but again, it is something I have gotten used to.Another point of confusion is the button right below the right mouse click - it looks like "V" shaped arrow, pointing to the left. If I were looking at this remote for the first time, I would swear that was a "back" button. It isn't though - it's the mouse lock button. Press it, and you freeze the mouse. That's an extremely helpful button and I use it all the time. I just wish the icon made a little more sense.Getting down into the details, if you're buying this for a self-built home theater PC, you likely have the skills to tinker with the settings a bit to get this to do what you want it to do. If you're expecting it to work exactly as you want, right out of the box, you will be disappointed. Luckily there are enough software and hardware tools out there to help along the way, and the functions of this device are open enough that you can, with some patience, edit pretty much anything you want it to do. For my purposes, I used an old IR receiver I had and hooked it up to the PC using LIRC so I could program the directional and "OK" buttons to work as I thought they should. I also used a simple keymapping tool to edit some of the built-in functions of the other keys so that now the remote works as though I feel it should. There was some difficulty with a few keys though since they seemed to be hard-coded, but I was eventually able to work it out.In general, this is a solid device that, with some tinkering, will do what you want it to do. You just have to be patient and use the right tools. My only other gripe is battery life. This remote comes with a rechargeable battery which is nice, but it doesn't last very long. The remote itself has an on/off switch which helps conserve battery, but if you forget to turn it off, you're left with a dead remote after only a couple of days. It charges back up with a micro USB - the same one an Android phone uses - but it can be kind of a pain when you're using it and all of a sudden it stops working. Positive points for the rechargeable battery, but negative points for battery life.PROS: Highly programmableEffectively combines IR and 2.4Ghz controls into one unitMostly intuitive controlsKeyboard on the back is native to WindowsRechargeable battery with micro USB portResponds well to IR learningVery lightweight and slim designCONS: Takes some getting used toRequires a bit more technical skill to get "just right"Poor battery lifeSome confusing buttons and iconsNo right click button

For raspberry pi, xbmc
I haven't been able to get the ir learning to work, but the rest of the remote is super responsive. Keyboard mapping was more accurate for the raspberry pi then many other after market USB keyboards. If you use xbmc on the pi, this is the easiest multimedia remote to use.

Well made, but falls short
When you first open the remote, it feels well made and fits well in your hand. I give them a lot of credit for this.Unfortunately the operation of the remote falls short of my expectations, and I am returning it.To set the scene: I planned on using this to control an android stick connected to my TV.The mouse is hardly useable. Even at a few feet, it is jittery and hard to be very precise with. I'm not sure what you can expect from an air mouse, so that alone isn't a show-stopper for me (it would be if I was going to play a game with it). The other very non-intuitive thing is that to "click" the mouse you don't hit the "OK" button like you would expect, you hit a "mouse" button which doesn't really fall conveniently under your finger - and while trying to find it you've almost certainly moved your pointer somewhere else. The thing is, I don't really want to use the mouse on a regular basis anyway. Any decent TV app is designed to be controlled by a traditional remote control anyway (I mostly want to run XBMC). Unfortunately, you can't turn the mouse off! There is an on/off switch on the remote, and there ought to be a second one to control the mouse. If you could just turn the mouse off, I could live with it.The keypad is OK. Again the circle buttons don't function as arrow keys as you'd expect, so you have to tweak your app to respond to those. If you're using something like XBMC, it'd sure be nice to have these send a normal keypress so you wouldn't have to bother.A side note: an audio jack? huh? I can't imagine what small percentage of people would ever actually use this.Bottom line: the remote is well built, and has lots of buttons. If you could turn the mouse off, I'd keep the remote and give it more stars. It'd probably really help battery life too. As it is, I find the mouse too annoying - and if I get annoyed, you can be my wife will hate it. I don't like having to re-charge my remote all the time.

Poor IR Function
The IR function only works when the remote is within 3-4 ft of device. This doesnt work for me so I will be returning it.
