She reached her widest audience with her '70s pop-soul smashes, but let's not forget that Freda started off as a jazz singer for the likes of Quincy Jones. She returns to those roots on this outstanding new album of standards and originals: You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To: Haven't We Met: You Don't Know: Lately: The Island: Midnight Sun: I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water, and more! There is a lot to like about Freda's new release
There is a lot to like about Freda's new release. Usually when new songs are interspersed with classic songs, the new songs are lacking. However, the new songs on this cd are quite good. Using real musicians and lots of them give this cd a great energy and joy. Freda sounds good on most of the songs, especially on You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To and I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water. Save Your Love For Me, Midnight Sun and The Island (3 songs I associate with NancyWilson) seem to be a stretch for Freda vocally. Overall this is a wrlcome cd. One more thing...great sound quality.

great performances, little staying power
Freda can SANG!!!! This is a very good collection of lounge songs, torch ballads, big band standards, and original compositions. There is nothing negative that can be said about these songs or Freda's performances, though something... something I cannot quite pinpoint... seems to be missing. I listed to the CD a couple of times, thought "wow, that is nice," but then never seemed to want to return to it. Why? I am unsure... As I said, everything about this collection is extremely well-done, but...but.... what is missing?

Band of Gold Does Jazz...For Real!
I could not believe that this is the very same Freda Payne that sang the song "Band of Gold" when I was a teenager. That song was a super big hit. This album, however, is a surprising treat in that she reveals herself to be quite the jazz singer. It pleases me way deep down in my soul. Awesome!

The Fabulous Freda Payne!
This is Freda Payne at her best! Jazz is Freda's genre! Her voice is superb, her diction impeccable, and the song selection is perfect. It's so nice to understand every word in a song. If you like jazz, you will love this album.

Thank you Ms. Payne
Ms. Payne's "Come back to me love" combines her melodic, soulful sound with real instrumentals that seem to be long lost with the surge of techno music. This CD is perfect for creating a romantic atmosphere as well as taking along on a road trip.

Not for me
Back to mainstream jazz and not as interesting to me as previous jazz influenced pop/soul albums.
