When we selected this item, we thought it had automatic movement, which is a feature of another baby seat we have, and which one of our grandchildren loved for the first six months of their life. In fairness, this baby seat has bounce AND sway, with the bounce allegedly caused by movement of the baby, though an adult can cause both movements. Also, the range of movement of this seat is far greater than the automatic seats we have had in the past. Even so, we really like the automatic swaying motion of the baby seat we got for one of our grandsons, and he loved it as a baby. Indeed, he was always quiet in his baby seat, and typically fell asleep in it unless he was hungry.Though this seat does not have automatic movement, it does have music, vibration, and a couple of toys suspended from a mobile.This seat has two things going for it. First, the range of movement is significant. Second, the baby is able to cause the seat to move. Our thought is that this seat provides different benefits from automatic seats. If we were forced to select one seat only, we would probably select an automatic seat. This seat is relatively expensive, so having two seats that provides different benefits may be difficulty for many people to afford.Good luck!

Given as a gift and the couple loved it

The swing is great but I thought it would be a continuous swing or bounce it is all manual.
