Slight improvement, but not a replacement for a humidifier.
My apartment gets very dry in the winter -- everything gets static , I wake up every morning with a stuffy nose and feeling like I have a cold, and my girlfriend gets nosebleeds. I liked the idea of this product, so I decided to try it out at the end of last winter by buying two of them (one for my bedroom and one for the living room). It did make a noticeable improvement and I liked it at first. However, now that Winter is back, I am noticing it is still getting very dry. I've been filling these up with water a few times a day, but its not doing the trick. Finally, I gave in and ordered a standard humidifier. It works much better and was worth the extra money.

All it is a sponge inside a plastic holder, not saying it doesn't put a little moisture in the air, but you'll need to refill it every couple of hours...

I was pretty disappointed. The product is really not designed to humidify a room. It has no way to retain water, and dries up very quickly.

vent humidifier
Non Electric Humidifier for Heating Vent This product definitely increased the humidity in our room. We no longer wake up with dry sore throats! We just wet it in the sink before going to bed each night.

Fair but not what I expected.

Try a regular humidifier and an Ecoflap vent cover instead
You'll be much better off simply using a humidifier and an Ecoflap vent cover which prevents the humidified air from draining down into the ductwork through the heat register where it's lost.
