Unnecessarily Complicated
When my long time-tested Quicken 2003 started to have issues I figured it would be a good time to upgrade. Since each incremental Quicken upgrade packs more and more features, it was recommended to me to first upgrade to a version prior to 2013 to ensure accurate data transfer and then move up to the current version. I am running this program on Windows 7 which was the latest Windows version when this Quicken software came out.Keep in mind, I am a user who does not download transactions into Quicken. I handle everything manually. It is just the way I am and allows me total control of the process and full awareness of money and investment flows. As others have reported, Quicken 2009 often freezes, most notably during account reconciliation. It seems that unnecessary processes are running in the background that slow things to a crawl and eventually crash the program. Also what used to be intuitive has gotten overly complicated. Simple transactions like moving money from a brokerage cash account into a securities purchase dies not resemble what I had with Quicken 2003. Now it involves additional steps. There are many other quirks that I am not happy with too. I am so dissatisfied I am looking for an alternative home accounting program.

No Comparison to Microsoft Money
What a disappointment after using Microsoft Money. Quicken is filled with annoying pop-up menus, an update that is worthless and a report menu (yes another pop-up) that is set in columns only. After using Microsoft Money for years and seeing the comparisons between Quicken and Money, I don't know where they got the idiots to review Quicken that gave it such a high rating. There are about 2 things I like in Quicken. Setting bills that have a strange cycle, i.e. every 13 weeks, Quicken provides a option to do this. The option to track your own personal method of payment in the register. The 401k option allows an automatic employer match. The register is over-sized and not very appealing. After I entered my account passwords and secured it with a vault password, the automatic update would not work. Quicken support told me to delete my vault password, of course they failed to tell me prior to doing this it would erase ALL my account passwords. It only does updates when you tell it to or manually run it. There are no options to update stock quotes periodically as with Microsoft Money. No feature to automatically do a backup, another annoying pop-up window asking you if you want to. Reports are a joke! Columns only, in the dreaded pop0up window. Layout is terrible compared to Money. Difficult to change report options and then creates another report when you change it. I would still be a Microsoft Money user if they had not decided to end software production. I think Microsoft stabbed Money users in the back by putting a useless link telling you how to extend on-line service leading you to nowhere. Hopefully Quicken will come out with a decent program in the future.

WORKS BETTER THAN EXPECTED
I was a devoted Money user for 12 years and even worked at MSFT on the Money support team for about a year quite a while ago. I really liked the Money interface better than Quicken. I was quite dissappointed to hear of Money's planned death. My copy was to expire in October. (No more bank updates nor quotes). So, I bit the bullet and went for Quicken. I knew that any of the free stuff would not be as thorough and polished. My transition is complete and getting used to and quite comfortable with the interface and function. Actually, overall they operate very similarly and Money users should find it easy to transition.I have found a few quirks in Quicken but we Money users are familiar with a few quirks aren't we? They are just a little different. I have read of people having difficult times converting data from Money to Quicken. I am not surprised. I think that is asking a lot to accurately convert years of data that was coded and stored by a different manufacturer. Just don't do it. I started fresh in setting up everything in Quicken and was actually pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it went. If I want to check old info, I will just access Money.I think you all will be surprised at how similar Quicken is. Good Luck!

Not what I expected or needed
I bought Quicken a month ago to replace my Microsoft Money software which is being discontinued. I expected to be able to import the MS Money data into Quicken without too much trouble. However, there is no way to import my MS Money data into Quicken. How could Intuit think they have a complete product without providing import capability for a comparable product from a major competitor. My database include history back quite a few years including stock purchases and sales so re inputting all this data is beyond reasonable. Quicken is essentially worthless for what i wanted to do.

A real good year for Quicken.
Although new editions come and go I fall back on the thoroughness of being able to categorize each transaction. I am able to make clear monthly home expenses and income. The following years lose the ability tor customize your transactions that are meaningful. If you want to know how this organization there is available a 95 page manual of instruction on line for 2008 which is essentially the same for 2009 Quicken Premier. The 2009 version of Quickens Premier is still available from resellers.

DO NOT BUY!!! DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE -- TOO OLD
I bought the "old" version because I didn't want to pay full price for the newer one. I figured the older version would be just fine for me. I'm not managing Warren Buffet's money or anything. Well, Quicken has disabled the ability to download transactions from your bank online AND also will not IMPORT them if you download them from your bank. Completely useless. I paid $25 for nothing. Don't buy it. Buy the 2012 or something else altogether.
