Stoicism: How to Use Stoic Philosophy to Find Inner Peace and Happiness

Very readable for a layperson who wants to learn about this very practical philosophy
Loved this book. I read 'Meditations' by Marcus Aurelius over a decade ago and recently decided to find something by a modern author which gives an overview of Stoicism. This book was exactly what I needed. It provides great quotes from the most important Stoics and translates their meaning into plain English. The author also does a great job of explaining how Stoic principles can apply to modern living. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to learn the basics of Stoicism. Great read.

Relatable
I am a recovering alcoholic and much of what is covered in this book goes very much in hand with the Alcoholics Anonymous way of thinking. I found it very helpful and plan on sharing it with my fellow AA friends. Thank you.

Interesting Book
I agree with the main ideas, but some of the suggestions are just not practical. At only 120 pages, it is over priced.

Nice summation!
The author boils Stoicism down to it's essence. If you are just starting this journey to mindfulness this is a great book to start with.

bland
not horrible, but not earth shattering either. its just more of the same stuff youve heard for decade's . meditate, be in the present, show restraint, journal, blah . blah, blah. Also needs a proofreader, several typos

Self-Help from thee past for today
Today's society requires a new approach to expand and increase our well-being and development. However, if you search for methods used by humanity during these troubled times, society scours the past for assistance. Stoics learn from the past by living in the present to build a better future. In fact, people desire this as they move through life and generations to come. Stoicism provides the knowledge from our ancestors for humanity to build its foundation of existence through continued development by always trying to do better. However, unlike today's political climate where too much emphasis is placed upon party ideology, Stoicism requires analysis on what is best for the state, country, and world and not simply one's ideology.Stoicism: How to use Stoic Philosophy to find inner peace and happiness provides a useful set of activities to guide you on a new path of development. Whereupon you seek to question the behaviors you have that occur without your direct knowledge. In essence, wake up from your dream state and experience life by being present. If you take all the key information from self-help books you would be left with this book. To sum it up, question, observe, react, take action, and change although one has to find in which order to take as each event, moment, or situation has different pathways based on experience.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A book on inner happiness
A self-help book that talks about using stoic philosophy to help you achieve internal peace. This book covers the basics of stoicism and simplifies the complexities that come with it so that random Joes can understand it easily. I'm generally not a fan of philosophy-oriented books but the mention in the synopsis of simplification made me laugh. It brought up a memory from a making-of documentary of the Matrix where Lawrence Fishburne was the only one who made sense of the philosophical texts the cast had to read. I digress, this is not going to appeal to everyone but it's definitely worth a look - especially if you're in need of help with de-stressing yourself. Check this one out when you get the chance.

Practical and concise
I’m a fan of Stoicism for two years now.I thought Jason Hemlock’s book was practical, concise and accessible. The book will be of interest whether you are new to Stoicism or have some knowledge of Stoicism. This was an enjoyable read. The chapters on premeditatio malorum, amor fati and seeking out misfortune stood out for me. I recommend this book!

A marvellous book: a wealth of good advice.
This book will have wide appeal. In addition to offering excellent wisdom and life advice, it provides a summative primer on ancient Greek Philosophers of the Stoic School with practical advice on how to relate their perceptive insights to contemporary living. Highly recommended.
