Save your time and money...buy something else. I gave it 2 starts since it still functions as a shadowbox, but that's about all it has going for it.The first thing I noticed when I received the shadowbox was the horrific smell that was imbued into the fabric backing. I have no idea what caused it but it has been Febreze'd a dozen times and sitting open on my counter for over two weeks now and the smell still won't go away. It doesn't smell like packaging or any wood finish I've ever used, so I don't know what it is, but it is awful. My only hope is that it will dissipate before I need to wrap it for Christmas in one week, or the giftee won't notice it. If this was the only issue, I wouldn't have bothered to try and send it back or even written a review, but I discovered more issues as I prepared the shadowbox as a Christmas gift.The second thing I noticed was the large scratch on the top / side pane. It is definitely not a part of the natural wood...more that it was scratched during production and someone decided to sell it anyway. The shipping box and packaging was in tact, so I know it wasn't damaged during shipping.The last thing I noticed (that I will comment on) is that one side is completely unfinished - it draws your attention to it as you are looking into the shadowbox, and away from whatever is actually in the shadowbox itself.Overall, I'm very disappointed in the poor quality and I would not waste my money on this again - especially considering there are many different options to purchase. If I had more time and realized all of these issues sooner, I would have shipped the shadowbox back and bought something else. Unfortunately, that's not an option for me, but perhaps this review will save you some headache.

It's a decent frame. It opens and closes just fine and the magnets keep it closed. But mine came with a pretty glaring flaw in that one side of the lid is really rough, almost like it wasn't sanded at all. It's a bit tough to photograph but you can really see it in the first picture in comparison to the rest of the frame. It's not unfixable, but I'm a little annoyed that I'll have to sand it myself before I do the diorama I was planning. I expected just a little better for the price.

We had a cat euthanized and the vet gave us a lock of hair and a foot impression to remember him by. I wanted to display them somehow and this was perfect.

Finding a shadow box with depth is kind of hard. I feel very lucky to have stumbled upon this item. It's the perfect size to put a dried rose in for my wife. The 2 inches of depth is absolutely perfect. The box feels well made and looks very nice. It should make for a wonderful Christmas surprise for her.If I could make one recommendation, it would be to offer different colors for the materials inside. Beige is kind of blah and I think some none earth toned colors would look really nice.Still a 5/5 for me. Thanks!

My dad gave me a slide rule from back in the 60s used to calculate concrete yardage. It came from my late uncle's concrete plant (Robertson's ReadyMix) in Southern California. I wanted to display this keepsake and this shadow box is the perfect shape and size.

This shadow box frame worked perfectly for a preserved mouth specimen I wanted to display. The box is a good size and not too heavy for the wall (you should anchor it anyway just to be safe) and works equally well just placed on a desk or table for display.It does have a distinct odor from the finish used on the wood, but that fades over time. Mine also had a small scratch on the glass that couldn't be buffed out, but it's not that noticeable.

I liked that it was wood. After 52 years I finally had a place for my Military badges, medals, and photo etc., instead of an old cardboard box under the bed. The only thing that made it better were the small round head pins I used instead of those supplied with it.
