Excellent one-of-a-kind active speaker system and DAC
Great system with very detailed sound - the quality of the source material is easily exposed - and excellent addition to high-end digital players like Sony DMP-Z1 and NW1ZAM1/M2 Walkmans.

Sony's all out assault on nearfield monitors has many plusses but one drawback (beside cost)
Sony's all out assault on nearfield monitors. Sony knew they weren't going to sell many of these going in and didn't seem to care. It's an incredible speaker system but also a bit maddening. In order to get decent bass, it has to be on a desk or other large flat surface and 4" from the rear wall. For my Davinci Resolve workstation, where I also listen to music, I can't position them anything like that. I used MacOS' built in sound control to send the USB to the Sony and simultaneously to an RME Dac that feeds the KEF K62 subwoofers, and provides a light delay to the subs, since the Sony uses DSP which takes time.In this configuration they are amazing, but the system should have had a subwoofer out to begin with, so people could augment the bass from the 2 4" drivers per side. The tech is still leading edge; 4 amplifiers per speaker and direct from DAC to amp with no analog stage in between. Also the amps are the latest rage, GANfets. Gan amps sounds fantastic, and can combine the best of SS and tube sound. The SAZ1 has XLR and RCA analog inputs, which is a nice feature for versatility, however the analog in's supposedly don't sound that great, even though they are converted to DSD.The the current price 50% off MSPR, these are still expensive but for a small form factor, they are incredible. Just plug in some devices via USB or optical and you have a high end audio system on your desk.I wanted these for late night listening when I can't fire up my main system. I used to have Genelec 8020's/7050 subwoofer, and this new system is light years in enjoyment above those Genelecs. For a short time I had the KEF LSX II in here (also mated to the KEF KC62 subs) and they sounded plasticky and low res in comparison to the Sony's. WowThe nice thing about them being true nearfield is that aside from the incredible sound filed they throw, I can listen at a good volume in another room and not wake anyone up. Ive been listening to more music than ever late into the night, and I only have these uber expensive Sony's to thank for that.

Punch way above their weight!
These speakers are amazing, and are incredibly precise especially with the fixed woofer motion setting. (I use blended D.A. Assist and Fixed A. WF Motion settings). To get the most out of them they need to be at ear level pointed directly at your ears.I enjoy listening to these as much as my YG Acoustic Sonja 2.3's that are 10x+ the cost in a small package that sits on my desk!! I never write Amazon reviews but had to write one for this awesome product. Great job, Sony!!
