A important discourse on depression, creativity, and hope
This is a marvelous little book (I look forward to book 2), based on communication between Alec Soth, well known photographer, and C. Fausto Carbrera, an incarcerated prisoner at the Rush City prison in Minnesota. It delves into depression and how creativity can emerge from this darkness to give hope. I have already gifted it to someone, and plan to buy more.

Tiny little book with HUGE insights.
I found this truly astonishing, with insights for anyone who is willing to look--not just those who suffer from depression. I think, as the title suggests, we all live in our own cages. Some are self-imposed, some imposed on us by deed or circumstance. But whether they need to define or confine us is at least in part up to us. I found it beautiful, thought-provoking and inspiring. A book to be shared.

Transcending incarceration
Having experienced prisons, as a volunteer and thereafter as a psychologist and administrator, I'm in awe in how photography, art, creative writing and relational communications can help individuals like Fausto transcend the oppressive/repressive environment of a maximum security prison.
