Zotos Quantum Extra Body Acid Permanent Unisex Treatment 1 Application

Awesome! My son wanted a perm but does fun things to his hair often for state high school sports so we didn't want to pay to have it professionally done if he was going to change it soon. I have never permed hair before but remember watching my grandma do it in her kitchen all the time so thought why not? I watched a video online for perming teen boys hair and this brand was recommended. My sons hair was bleached and dyed a few months ago so we chose the perm for bleached hair. It was great! It took 2 hours from start to finish with rolling taking the longest. I followed the directions exactly with the 20 minute processing time and rinses being a full 5 minutes each. I bought end papers, purple and white rods, and cotton coil on here as well. His perm looks exactly as he wanted it to and it was so easy. It smells like a perm, but it works great and his hair is in great condition after. Super happy!

UPDATE 4/10/2022: After living with the initial perm 7 months, I discovered that on the really thin/finest areas on my scalp, namely the crown, the ends got just a bit “crispy.” Nothing an iron wouldn’t smooth out and not brittle enough to break, but even so… When I gave myself another perm a few weeks ago, I reduced the processing time from 20 down to 15 minutes, and the difference is noticeable. Much better result on the really thin/fine areas, and the overall curl is just as good. For those of you with normal to thick hair, full 20 minute processing time is probably just fine. For those of us with finer & thinner hair, 15 minutes is gold. ORIGINAL REVIEW 8/1/2021: I have very fine hair, so I have to be careful with my product choices. I gave myself a perm today using the Zotos Quantum Extra Body Acid Perm. So far, so good… I will come back and update again after a few weeks of washing & styling. I didn’t want tight curls—just loose natural curls, so I chose all purple rods. I also purchased end papers, cotton roll, and some long plastic rolling picks to feed through the roller bands. (Roller picks are a must for me to prevent sagging and weird roller marks on my thinning crown. If you have normal or thick hair, this may not be a problem for you.) The instructions on the inside of the box were basic, but easy to follow. (Even though I’ve watched stylists perm my hair dozens of times over the years, I also watched a couple of videos on YouTube to get tips from people who have already done this.) First big key to a good perm is getting your hair super clean. I used a clarifying shampoo, and did not use any conditioner or other products at all in my hair after shampooing, then I combed it out with a nice wide-tooth comb to avoid breakage. NOTE: I suspect some people who didn’t get a good result may have accidentally used conditioner or something after shampooing? Hard to say without asking, but it’s something I have seen happen with other people before. Next big key to a good perm is definitely how you roll the hair, so I put on my “patience hat” and really took my time. Also, I kept a little spray bottle of water handy so I could re-dampen each section as needed. (Hair is easier to roll and absorbs the solution better when it’s damp.) I left the waving solution + activator on for the full 20 minutes before rinsing (rollers still in) and gently patting dry. Then I applied the neutralizer and let that sit for about 10 minutes before carefully removing the rollers and rinsing my hair one final time. I’ll wait at least 48 hours before washing, per the instructions (and past experience with salon perms). My initial impression? It actually came out a little better than the perms my ex-stylist used to give me. (See photos) The curls feels softer, and my hair isn’t borderline fried. I now suspect she was using something too harsh for my hair. I’m so happy that I finally worked up the courage to give myself a perm at home. Getting a better result than she did has given me a lot of confidence AND it will save me a ton of money in years to come.

I have thin, fine, straight , uncolortreated white hair and am afraid when trying new hair products. This perm was great. Gave me the body that will hold the occasional curl with minimal to no damage.

IT WORKED WONDERFULLY this was my first time ever perming and you've got to do your research, get the rollers that fit for your hair and what style you want, and the rolling papers. Follow directions exactly. And don't use conditioner in your hair before you use it. Buy the curly hair products for afterwards, I had flat straight and long hair, straight hair no more!!

1st time using this brand because Brand "O" quadrupled its price. Wow, so much better than expected. Liked the plastic cap too. I had extra paper from previous perm kits but you'll need to buy beforehand. Shampoo first (without conditioner in shampoo), roll up (I only perm the top short hair with 14-16 white rollers) for 18 mins. (I start counting when applying perm solution). Rinse 5 mins. then 1/2 bottle neutralizer and wait 5 mins. Gently release curlers and massage in other half of neutralizer. Rinse well and towel dry. Do not shampoo or stretch hair for 48 hours. Other brand gave me crispy ends multiple times despite following directions so I'll stick with this brand now. I have thick Asian hair but natural black/white hair (I'm 68). I rolled no more than 1/4" of hair for each roller to ensure curls. Finally, I cut off rubber straps and use mini claws instead (2 per roller) because it comes off too often and not reliable. This really helps to keep curls in place (got them at dollar stores). Make sure these claws fit your rollers before snipping off the rubber straps (mine were 1/2" only). I’ve been a hairstylist for 12 years and have done thousands of perms. Used this product last minute. Completed on virgin hair with 1” rods. Instructions stated to leave on for no more than 20 minutes. At the 19 minute mark, we checked to see how the curl was doing—absolutely no curl whatsoever. We didn’t want to risk over processing, so started rinsing at 20 minutes and applied the neutralizer. When we removed the rollers and checked, absolutely none of the hair had curled except a small portion on the fringe. The entire back and side sections were almost straighter than the hair had been naturally. Not remotely satisfied with this product. I have never had a neutralizer from any brand burn my scalp—this one did. We rinsed for 15 minutes and the smell never dulled. I’m not sure how this has so many positive reviews. We now cannot touch their hair for another month after expecting this product to work and having it fail. They’re not happy at all with the outcome. This was a major waste of time spent for something that resulted in board straight hair that had previously had a light wave to it. In twelve years, I have never had a perm remove the natural curl and replace it with straight hair, on a roller, unless it was severely damaged. If following the instructions to a T caused virgin hair to become this over processed (that has been permed successfully in the past before they grew it out), I cannot recommend it to ANYONE.

Since the 1980s, A QUANTUM perm has always been the answer for fine, thin hair. Now they have made it even better and easier. I have mid-back length hair. Fine and thin; I am 58 years old. Previously permed nine months ago with an alkaline perm as I couldn't get an acid perm. Also, colored about 5 years ago. I washed with clarifying shampoo, and NO CONDITIONER! (DO NOT USE CONDITIONER before your perm, IT PREVENTS THE PERM FROM PENETRATING THE HAIR SHAFT) I rolled the traditional way, Mohawk style on top. I rolled back, used good tension, and quality papers. On the sides and back I staggered and wrapped horizontally. I used 58 purple rods on my small head. (I normally use gray and white, but I wanted a softer curl, and these were perfect! Larger ringlets. I didn't want a kinky curl, but needed body and definition.) I used two perms, (my acid perms normally need about 40+ minutes to process. Even though my hair is dry and a bit porous, it has always been resistant.) I followed these specific recommendations and processed for only 20 minutes and I got exactly what I wanted. The photos I will show are on the second day, slept on, no products, and the hair cuticle still open a bit. A nice conditioner and cold rinse will close those and it will be more sleek and less frizzy. (Embrace the process, be patient, do not wet or weigh down your new curls too quickly.) If you want a nice lift from the root make sure to use small sections, go against the natural direction of your hair, and roll all of the way to the scalp. If your hair has been previously exposed to color, chemicals or perm, make sure you use WELLA preperm treatment on the ends. NO DAMAGE, NICE DEFINITION, THE APPEARANCE OF THICKER, HEALTHIER, NATURALLY CURLY HAIR! This is your perm. ** I do have the option of using curl foam and a diffuser if I want more of a pretty woman Julia Roberts style. And in these photos I haven't washed, conditioned, or styled yet. (72 hours of no water or shampoo will lock in your results.) ** ALSO, AS WITH ANY PERM, your hair may lighten a bit.
